Paradox v1 for windows
I hope I am in the right place to get the info I need. I have used the original v1 from the early nineties and am currently on windows xp, just for paradox. The laptop is almost at the end of its life, so must move on. I will try to upload it to a windows 7 laptop in xp mode. But perhaps I should move up the paradox version ladder too. Can I still get  v5 and would I be able to use my existing databases and would I easlily be able to use v5? Can it be used  on windows 10? And what about the latest corel versions? Are these a step too far for thid it dinosaur. A few different questions but hope someone out there can help. In my narrow circle of uk friends no one has ever used paradox, sono help there. Looking forward to any input.

Xcopy/robocopy most efficient way to trans. files?
The company i work for uses xcopy to copy our server files and folders to a backup folder every night, this process takes anywhere from 45 mins to 1hr 20 mins, other than trying robocopy or xcopy does anyone have a better more efficient ( faster ) idea or way that they do things to copy large tables/files/folders to a backup folder? Please post your ideas or what you do if it is different.

Death match: Windows Vista versus XP
http://www.infoworld.com/article/08/03/17/12TC-vista-versus-xp_1.html?source=NLC-PLATFORMS&cgd=2008-03-19 Interesting article if nothing else... I just bought a new laptop on Sunday and it came with Vista, but I have to say it isn't anything I would pay extra for or upgrade a machine I already have to... If you're a self-proclaimed Vista fan, what are your reasons? Just curious... from both a user point of view and from a person having to support/develop to it....

Windows 2000 Professional
Here's a problem that popped up - I try to boot into my computer running Windows 2000 Professional, and the system gets to the Windows 2000 logo screen then automatically goes into a reboot, and the cycle repeats itself. An error message pops up but only for a split second so I cannot read it. I have not installed anything onto the computer in over two months. It's set up as NTFS, only one partition, and it's a Compaq 7000 Series., , Two question:, , 1. What the heck is wrong (sorry, had to ask)?, 2. Is there a way to freeze the error screen as it pops up so I can read it?, , Thanks in advance for any help., , Chris

Windows ME and GeForce 2 MX 200 Graphics Card
I was wondering if anyone has encountered problems while installing a GeForce 2 MX 200 Graphics Card while running the Windows ME Operating System., , When I install the card and start up windows, it won't automatically detect the new card. Also when I try to install it manually it still won't find it., , Anyone have any ideas., , P.S. The card is AGP and my old one is PCI (3D Blaster Savage 4). I have made sure AGP is enabled in BIOS and have tried the AGP at different speeds.

Serial Printing
I am running Windows 2000 Advance Server and I have a POS program that the vendor is saying it is a microsoft problem with printing from a serial port(COM1) I have an Epson Serial printer and I tested it VIA the printer folder and I get a test print. I then go to the command prompt and used the mode status command and it saying it does not exist but if I use the print command (eg. print /d:com1 c:\set.txt) it prints. Is there any way I can automatically print the file out or get windows to print from the software. Any suggestions

Install "IE 6 or higher" this may solve your problem, it did me. "IE 5.5" has proven to cause many problems forf it's users.

No printer specified error
Hello all, I am new here and I hope this works. , , I am currently having a problem with a laptop trying to print from P-dox5 on a Win98 platform (the printer is an HP4050n). I am receiving two errors, one with this file in the error dialog box (hpdfdb1.drv using PCL 6 driver and hpdfcb1.drv using the PCL 5e driver). Now, when I change the driver for the printer to PS I am able to printer with out errors, but I do not get all the info or graphics as shown on the screen. And the other error is the NO PRINTER SPECIFIED ERROR, the odd thing on this on is this only happens when I change the drivers with out rebooting the computer. I hope this is enough info and if not please feel free to contact me, as I will be able to provide more info if needed. Thank you all in advance. Great site!

Cool Windows Key shortcuts
I just posted my favorite WinKey shortcuts in a short rambling to our Prestwood knowledge base at the following URL: http://www.prestwood.com/aspsuite/kb/document_view.asp?qid=100269 , The Microsoft Windows Key (WinKey) does more than just display the Start menu. I didn't know that until recently. What are some of your favorite shortcut keys? Post here or at the end of the KB post.

Public/private IP and XP remote desktop
I have a peer to peer LAN of four PCs running XP - One I use as a file server. The LAN is connected to the internet via ADSL on the file server, and XP's Internet Connection Sharing. Only the file server has a public IP address. , , 1. Is it possible to intitiate a remote assistence request to a computer on the Internet from any of the other clients that do not have a public IP address?, , 2. Is it possible to connect from a PC on the Internet via Remote Desktop to any of the PCs on my LAN that DO NOT have a public IP address?, , Any suggestions would be great., , Chris

If you have a firewall, you may need to configure your firewall to route a particular port to the internal IP address. This feature goes by various names including IP masquerading and pin holes.

Kerberos is a network security authentication protocol developed by MIT. It's important to you because starting with Windows 2000, Microsoft has adopted Kerberos version 5 authentication protocol as the default network authentication protocol., , Click here to read a Microsoft white paper on the subject.
