H-1B Discussion
The controversial H1-B visa program was increased by lobbying groups such as TechNet several years ago. An H1-B visa allows a foreign worker to temporarily take a position in the United States away from a U.S. citizen., , Does the shortage of talent still exist?, Is it time to abolish H1-B visas?, If not, is it time to lower the available H1-B visas to pre-1998 levels?, , Read Full Article

RE: Paradox & Custom ODBC Driver
To add an ODBC data source, first define its DSN.  Once defined (created), you'll see it listed when you create a Database alias in the Database Driver Name dropdown (default's to STANDARD).

If I were doing this for a client, I would create a 32-bit DLL in Delphi and simply call it from Paradox to process what was needed.

RE: Splash Screen Change In Parado
The splash screen is in a Windows resource file. Developers use resource files and then link to them. You can download a resource editor, find the resource, and edit it. I've done it before several times.

Re: Upgrade Paradox BDE?
Just a quick addition to Rick's post. Here at Prestwood IT Solutions, we always stay up to date with the latest versions of the BDE so this shouldn't be a problem at all. In fact, it may make some problems go away.

No. What I like to do is store just the filename in a database field and then store all the actual files in a folder.

Hi John, i downloaded the zip, extracted the file, and opened the form in design mode using Paradox 9. Worked just fine. Are you opening in design mode? Or, a later version of Paradox?

To access Paradox tables, all applications must be pointing to the same Net Dir which controls table and row locking. Run the BDE Admin control panel applet to set the Net Dir.

RE: Paradox Development
Hi Ross, my company Prestwood IT doesn't develop new applications in Paradox anymore, but we do maintain quite a few. Our development for new apps focuses on two platforms: C# to MS SQL using webforms, as well as PHP to mySQL usually within Wordpress. It's great that Paradox 9 and above run well on Windows 7, 8, 8.1, and 10. I miss the simplicity of Paradox applications. Good times. I maintain a blog on the future of Paradox at the following URL: http://www.prestwoodboards.com/ASPSuite/KB/document_view.asp?qid=100285

Bar code readers are usually just keyboard wedges. Meaning, they emulate keyboard presses so no extra coding is needed. Let me know if you're doing something special; otherwise, no special coding needed.

Did you upgrade to Windows 10? If so, have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling the BDE? Should only take a few minutes to try that. Let me know what you find.

Paradox Development
Hi Everyone, I am running Paradox 11 under windows 7/64.  When I put Windows 7/64 in I had no end of problems with software that would not run on it.  Fortunately, Paradox did.  My question is, "is anyone continuing to develop Paradox Win, other than Corel or is it's future compatibility dependent  on them.  As I understand it, there has been very little development work on Paradox since version 9.  What has been done is virtually tweaks.  Am I right?  Does anyone have any thoughts on the subject?

How do I set location for .NET control file
When I want to open the files on my server I get the message; "You have attempted to open a database that is in use by someone else, but data can't be shared. You must set the location for the .NET Control file." Of course the file is not in use by anyone else.  I appreciate knowing your suggestions/replies for how to set the .NET Control File location. Thanks
