Problems with Application Framework
Can someone help? I have introduced a new program into our network, using the Application Framework that is available within Paradox 8. On my computer there is a splash screen that tells you the name of the Program and what version it is at etc, however, on all the other computers on the network the splash screen does not appear even though it does on mine! We are all executing the same .exe file. Can anyone help? Cheers

Your Website
Hello, , My name is Gary Park and I am just away to graduate from university, and in order to keep in touch with people from uni it has been suggested that we set up some sort of website with message boards and contact details. i have used your site quite a lot in the past, both for ObjectPAL and VB and I like the message boards and I would like to be able to set something like this from the uni website with user names and logins., , The question really is, is this difficult to set up and are the message boards difficult to set up??, , Any help you could be in this matter would be most appreciated., , Thanks, , Gary

They're pretty easy, but may be a bit of a learning curve. There are dozens of message board software packages available. This one is from infopop.com.

Text Files and Text Boxes
Hello, , I am sure that this is going to be a simple problem to fix, but I have just started a very steep learning curve with Visual Basic 6 in that I have to alter a program that has already been written, and I am a complete novice to VB., , What I need to do is to read in a text file which has multiple lines. The information that is read in then has to be displyed in a text box for the user to read. i.e. one line in the text file should appear as one line in the text box. Is there a simple way of achieving this, or can someone point me in the right dircetion for finding a solution., , Thank you for your time., , Gary Park

RS232 Inputs
This may be a very stupid question, but is it possible for Paradox to import data from the RS232 (COM) port the PC. I am not really sure what kind of data is being imported at the minute, I am just looking into whether it is possible or not., , Cheers!

I believe you CAN open a COM port using a textstream, just as you can an LPT port., , Not sure how well it would work; some have tried but I don't know with what result., , There are some commercial addon products out there that Paradox can use, in both DLL and OCX format, that would make the task MUCH easier.

Re: RS232 Inputs
Thanks for replying!, , We are going to be trapping for incoming data on the port. Like I say I am not sure what kind of data is going to be trapped, I have just been asked to find out if it is possible. Is it, and if so how do I do it? I have got absolutely no idea where to start!, , Thanks again!

Problems with newly created application
Hello there,, , I have just completed an application in Paradox 8 using the Application Framework and I am having a couple of problems. When I run the application from our L drive, which is on our network, there are no problems, all the forms work properly and everything is happy. However, when a colleague trys to use the application from his computer he has difficulty. The initial form opens up properly but when he presses the buttons on the custom toolbar that I created nothing happens. Then, when he logs into another computer the application works fine. Also when I log into his computer there are no problems. Has anyone dealt with any problems like this before. Any help would be greatly appreciated., , Thanks.

I don't use the application framework, so I won't be of much help to you here. However, I do know that the Novell Client (4.83) was causing problems with Paradox refusing to load. They patched it, and I had no further problems. Just as a wild guess, I would try reverting to an older Netware client (4.82, maybe).

Re: Problems with newly created application
We are starting to agree with you that it might be a permissions issue, however, we have got a new problem now. We tried to install a patch to Novell to see if that would help. Basically it didn't and after everything else, we had to wipe the hard drive and re-install windows. After doing this and installing Paradox I am presented with a new error when I double click on the .exe file that runs my application:, , "Exception EInOutError in module new_digi_links.exe at 0025082 I/O Error 183", , This is preventing me from even getting into the application at all. All that is happening is that the launcher splash screen is appearing and then this error appears. Any ideas? What does happen is if I double click on the script file that is asscociated with the .exe file the application works perfectly but why does the .exe file not work.

Default actions in Applications
I am using Paradox 8 and I want to put some code behind the close button at the top of the application I have created to test that all the tables have been closed properly etc but I can't put the command disableDefault in the menuAction event for my application. Why is this? Is there anyway around it.

Re: Default actions in Applications
I am not sure if you are understanding what I am trying to do. I would like the code to be executed when you push the cross at the top right hand corner of the application framework that I have created. I haven't actually created a button. That is why I have tried to put the code in the close event for the application, but the code is being triggered after the application has closed down.

Re: Table is read-only??????????
Hi there., , I am not sure why but the problem stopped happening when I pointed directly to the JOB_number field. So instead of having:, , JOB_Number.value=currjob, , I put in:, , sales.#Box215.Box1.JOB_Number=currjob, , and it started working again. Thanks again for your help though., , On a completely seperate issue, do you know why I am not allowed to use the disableDefault command in Application Events. I am using Paradox 8 and I want to put some code behind the close button at the top of the application to test that all the tables have been closed properly etc but I can't put the command disableDefault in the menuAction for my application. Why is this? Is there anyway around it. Thanks again for your help!!!

Table is read-only??????????
Hi there can someone help. I am using version 8 of paradox and I am having a problem with a newly created form. The form existed previously ans a few aesthetic changes have been made. However, when I try to run the program now I get the error message:, , "An error occured when setting the property named 'Value' of the object named 'Job_Number' of type 'Field'. The table is read-only.", , I have traced the problem to one particular section of code. This section posts a new record with a new job number which is taken from a table and incremented by one. If I comment out one line of code the form runs properly. This line is, , JOB_Number.value=currjob, , currjob is simply the value of the new job. Has anyone seen problems like this before cause this is really causing me probelms. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Problems with a newly created notebook
Hi there I am having a few problems with the Notebook that I have created within a form. The Notebook has seven pages, each of which have different objects in them. When I go into run mode only the first two pages of the notebook are visible. When I click on the tab for the other pages all I get is a blank screen. Anyone know why this is happening? Any help would be appreciated! Cheers!

Problems with the keyPhysical event
Hey there can someone help. I having having a problem with the keyPhysical event. What I want to do is when ctrl and x are pressed together I want to result to be a cut operation. I know that this is s default action, but I also want it to include the command action(dataBeginEdit) so that it will work every time regardless of what mode you are in i.e. view or edit. I have tried to do this using the following code, , if eventInfo.isControlKeyDown() and eventInfo.vChar() = "X" then, disableDefault, action(dataBeginEdit), eventInfo.setId(MenuEditCut), endIf, , However, this does not work as it says that setId has a parameter mismatch. Can someone tell me what I am doing wrong, or a way to solve this problem, Cheers

Problems with applications!!!!
This isn't really an ObjectPAL question but can someone help me. I am having problems creating a new Application. The problem is I have an existing set-up that works fine, but I have been asked to change the design of it so that it runs within an application, so that it is an independent program. Is it possible simply to copy and paste the existing forms into the application or do you have to create them from scratch. From what I have read I understand that I have to create them from scratch however, there are over 60 forms and 40 reports in the existing program so I don't really want to create them all from scratch. I there an easier solution?

Hi there, , I am using Paradox 8. The thing is I have an existing set of forms and tables that are not run as an application but simply within the paradox environment. I have been asked to create an application, i.e. running from an exe program that will hold all of the existing forms. I don't really want to create all the forms again I want to know if it imppossible to import the forms into the application without starting them from scratch. Hope you can help.

Re: I need help!!!!!!!!! Toolbars in Paradox.
Thanks for your help, but I was able to find away around it. Within the toolbar options I assigned the button the menuAlignRight, then within the menuAction method I disabled the default for that option and put instead to open a particular form. Your idea was ok if I simply wanted to open a form but I wanted to open a particular form and I found that this way does it. Thanks anyway.

I need help!!!!!!!!! Toolbars in Paradox.
Hi there, I need some help with a problem i am having with toolbars within Paradox 8. I have been asked to create a new toolbar with specified graphics. I believe I know how to get custom graphics into the toolbars, however, I have also been asked to make these buttons open certain forms by pressing on them. It is my understanding that you can only assign predetermined actions to buttons, such as menuFileOpen. However, I want these buttons to open a particular form. Is this possible or is there another way to do this. Can someone help?
