ObjectPAL version incompatable...?
Howdy, I run Paradox 9, under Win 10. I made a minor edit to a particular report. Let's call it Report1. Typically, I print that report using code that is on the doubleclick of a field on an MRO on a form called Form1. Now, when I launch Form1, and doubleclick on the appropriate field in the MRO, I get the error: "The objectPAL version used in this form is incompatible with this version of Paradox. You must recompile from source." So, I opened the form in Edit mode, viewed the code on the field's doubleclick, saved it, and delivered it. Next, I did just that for Report1. I relaunched Paradox, and also rebooted the system, but still get the error. In addition, I can launch the report, and can print it manually, with no problem. How can I correct this error when trying to use the code to do the printing from Form1? Sincere thanks, Lothar

Hi Steven, I thank you for your suggestion and did try it. While experimenting, I stepped through the code, and found something odd, that allowed me to tweak it. With that, all worked well. So though I had success, I confounded the experiment, and I don't know which of the tweaks corrected things. In any case, as before, sincere thanks, Lothar

Debugger NOT Debuggin' (It's Blank...)

Hello,

I just entered a breakpoint in some code I have, but then, when I ran the code, the Debugger dialog launched, but it did not populate. It is completely blank.

I have no idea how to proceed (but I do have a large mallet at the ready.)

Thanks for any suggestions,

Lothar

RE: Debugger NOT Debuggin' (It's B
Hi Steven, (I am not positive about my specific steps but) Yesterday, when I saw the completely blank debugger, I may have rebooted. Today, when it happened again, I closed the debugger, and saw an error dialog saying something that told me I had declared a var to be a SmallInt, but it had become too large. Changing the declaration to LongInt seems to have made the debugger happy at this point. There are still some odd issues with the code, so I might be getting back to you on this thing. Many thanks, as before,  Lothar

Code to delete record's last character
Hello, This would seem pretty simple, but... I have some code that generates a CSV file that I then export to my phone. I need to tweak the code so that it looks at the last character of each record, and then deletes that character if it is a comma. Might you point me in the right direction to do that? I'm stumped. Sincere thanks, Lothar

RE: Code to delete record's last c
Hi again, I've not tried experimenting with this as yet, but I noticed something I need to ask about: Rum's more detailed version has the line:   if inputLine.substr(inputLine.size(),1) = "," then That would appear to be testing for a comma, but it is testing the first character in the string, or the last? Also, about the testing: If either, or both, of you, would like to stop by my office in New Hampshire we could arrange to have... Oh, nevermind, I'll do the testing. Very sincere thanks, as before, Lothar

Field text displays in REVERSE?
Howdy, I have a multipage form that has a significant amount of code on it. One of its fields has started to display its newly entered text in reverse order of the keystrokes. So if I type KEYSTROKES immediately after entering Edit mode what appears in the field is SEKORTSYEK. If I enter Edit mode, and pause for a few seconds before typing, all is well. I have no understanding about how to diagnose and correct this problem, so would welcome any help. All the best, Lothar

Prints with Problem (but scrolls properly...)
Hello, I have a particular mailing label report that just started to behave oddly: When I print the report, the result looks like this: GOOD LABEL 1, BLANK LABEL EJECTED, GOOD LABEL 2, BLANK LABEL EJECTED, GOOD LABEL 3, BLANK LABEL EJECTED, , To diagnose the problem, I viewed the report on screen, and it displayed LABEL 1. I clicked to view the next page, and expected to see a blank label, but instead, LABEL 2 appeared. As I clicked along, each label displayed in sequence properly, with no blank pages. So, when scrolling, all looks fine, but when printing, I get the alternation with blanks as I have described. What would be causing that situation, and how can I fix it? Many thanks, Lothar

Corrupt Form... Now what?
Hello, I run Paradox 9 SP4 with Win 10. After some diagnostic errors that had me deeply concerned, I just discovered that problems I am having occur only when I try to modify a particular form. (Whew...) That form has nothing on it other than about a dozen buttons, and I have to occasionally tweak some of the button code. Starting earlier today, I found that whenever I clicked to save, or check syntax, for code on any of the buttons, Paradox would crash. Saving code on objects on other forms works just fine. So, that would seem to indicate that the form in question is somehow corrupted. I guess that I could create a new form, draw in those buttons, and cut & paste in their code. But is there a better approach to correcting the problem I am describing? Sincere thanks, Lothar

Hi Steve, I had thought that the error might be spurious, but just discovered that it was not... In one of the Var-EndVar blocks, I had selectPrinter as a string. Removing that eliminated the error. As always, many thanks, Lothar

No printers installed on the system?
Hello, I run PSP4 under Win 10. When I now try to print (with code, or manually), I get the error "No printers installed on the system." In fact, several printers are installed, and work properly from software other than Paradox. How can I get Paradox to see those printers again? Many thanks, Lothar

Hi again, I have accidentally solved the problem: As it turns out, none of my printers was set as the Default, and that generated the error. Choosing and of the printers as the Default, eliminated the problem. All the best, Lothar

I have the code, but where best to put it?
Hello, I have a few lines of code, but am confused about where to put it: I have a two fields on a form. One of these holds an email address, and the other a unique number identifying that email address. The process of getting and incrementing the unique number is handled with a tCursor that opens on a table that holds only that single number. The coding is simple, and works, but I have managed to get myself confused about where best to put it. Would it be best to create a "New Address" button to do the deed? Or would another location make more sense? Thanks for any assistance, Lothar

first.. you're making a "next number" table.. YES !!!! you have two choices.. trap for the INS key, or deny the INS key and use a button.. personally, I prefer the latter.. I always try to limit all the keypress stuff, and use buttons, for many reasons

Even I should know how to do this...!
Hi, I have this trivial code on the newValue event of a date field on a form: var,   tcTick tCursor, endVar If self.value = "",    then,       msgStop("Whew !" Tickles completed through   " + string (tickDate)), endIf It displays my msgStop dialog when it shouild, but when I clear that dialog, Paradox displays its "At end of table" announcement. I've experimented with no success, but can't figure out how to prevent the Paradox dialog for displaying. Might you assist? Many thanks, Lothar ,    , ,
