enumWindowsNames()
Has anyone experienced a lag or pause while using code that executes enumWindowNames? I've experienced this several times while running forms on both Windows 98 and Windows XP Professional Platforms while using Paradox 10. Is there any way to get around this or a better way to determine what applications are running in Windows. Does enumWindowsHandles work better?, , Thanks,, Beth @ ABP

Paradox to ODBC SQL Connection Login Screen
Does anyone know of a way to get rid of the pop up login screen when connecting BDE to ODBC SQL server? I have found places that state you can store the login information, but that does not seem to work. Is there a specific ODBC driver I should be using that will work better than the SQL Server Native Client 11 (this seems to work the best for data types and such)?

Posting to SQL from multiple forms
Bradley, I read thru your response and it appears that you're posting the the SQL db only thru the library.  I have a situation that I need to post to the SQL db from many different forms and passing all of the data thru to a library would be extensive.  Is there any other way to open the SQL db for the entire paradox session? I'm concerned about performance if we have to open the db connection on each and every form. Thanks for your help! Beth

Time to move on...
I'm putting out some feelers with all of you, my long time Paradox colleagues, whom have loved Paradox for these many years, but feel that maybe it's time to start the long anticipated migration out of Paradox. At this time I have absolutely no idea as to what I'd like to move to.  We have a legacy product all built in Paradox 10 and primarily using Windows XP at this time.  I'm entertaining the idea of developing  in Windows 7 as there's a ticking time bomb on the availability of XP. Can any of you recommend different software development environments/languages that should be looked at?  Ease of migration is one factor, but not the decision maker. I appreciate any help you can provide!  Thanks as always! Beth,

VK Keyboard Constants
Recently I've been trying to write some code to prevent my operators from getting into Windows via the Windows buttons on keyboards. I thought it may be as simple as determining the VK Keyboard constant and adding it to each form's keyphysical method. However, these buttons are not addressed in the Paradox Help Files for Paradox 10. Roll Eyes , , But I just found them today Eek! ....thought I'd put it out there for others, so that it will help you too., , VK_LWIN ; Left Windows Button, VK_RWIN ; Right Windows Button , , I just wanted to help in a small way. My way of saying a litle "thank you" to all of you who have greatly helped me over the years. Big Grin! , , Thanks,, , ABP

Creating an .exe from Paradox
I feel like a retard asking this question, but here goes nothing. Is it possible to create a .exe from a Paradox form or script? Root question is:  I have a customer that needs to run a script that I've created in Paradox on a system that does not and can not house Paradox Runtime.  What are the possible solutions?,

PGP Encryption
Has anyone had any experience with PGP Encryption via Paradox? We've worked with AES string and file method encryption via the Crooit Encryption Library.  But PGP is new territory.

no, I have not located something yet.  Killing 2 birds with one stone would be awesome, but Delphi is not an option. Will most likely find some dll thru an Easter Egg Hunt on the web.  I found one today, but have not researched it yet...was just hoping some of my Paradox friends had already been there done that, and could point me in the right direction. You know how it is! ,

SFTP
Has anyone utilized Paradox to post files to a SFTP site? Are you doing it directly thru Paradox or thru a 3rd party app?  and if so, what's the app? Thanks in advance for any help!,

Hi Beth, You can do this through a DLL. We've written a few DLLs in Delphi over the years for our Paradox clients for FTP but those DLLs all were implementation specific. We could write one for you but there are so many free ones out there you should probably just download one. Maybe someone else can recommend a specific one.

Server Busy?
While working with an OLE Auto object I often receive a "Server Busy" error. , Typically when waiting for a piece of information from the other , application.  Is there a way to extend the timeout to prevent receiving this , message as often?, , The full message is:, "Server Busy: This action cannot be completed because the other program is , busy. Choose 'Switch To' to activate the busy program and correct the , problem." Thanks, Beth,

OLE and Arrays?

Hi Beth, Sounds like the old typeCasting problem.  Don't know if this will help - but can you use a generic type for the argument?  I'm guessing this is Delphi - and it's been a while - but the argument type has to be some thing generic like "anytype".  You can then re-cast it as an array once you have the return value.  Ric

Max Library Size
Is there a maximum library size that one should stay under. The reason I ask is that I am experiencing quite a few General Protection Faults and I am uncertain as to why. I know in the past that we encountered this problem with calling a windows dll from the uses block. Someone told me that Paradox had a problem with Windows libraries over 64K. Does this 64K size apply to all libraries?

Application running on Multi-User Environment
Has anyone had any experience with running a Paradox 10 Application (via Runtime) on a Citrix Server or any multi-user environment., , We are currently running our apps on a variety of Windows op sys / desktop pc's. We are interested in possibly moving to a Citrix Server but have no experience. What are the differences between the two? And any stags we may face...., , Thanks for the help!

The compile error simply means that you have an error in your script.  Probably a typo or undeclared variable. Have you considered what happens when a user starts an update process and then walks away without issuing the unlock script? Use the paradox locking  which you apparently have working.

Reboot Windows
I'd like to be able to reboot my systems from time to time. How can I do this thru OPAL?, , I found the following on the web somewhere for use in Paradox. But the reboot function does not work., , The only one I could get to work was Logoff., , Any ideas?, , I'm using Paradox 10 with Windows XP., , ;For this function there are several options for the first parameter :, ;0 : Logoff, ;1 : ShutDown, ;2 : Reboot, , Uses "user32.dll", ExitWindowsEx(uflags clong, dw clong), endUses, , method pushButton(var eventInfo Event), , exit() ;// Put here the code to close any Tcursors to prevent loosing data, , ExitWindowsEx(2,0), , endmethod, , I am under the impression that it will be beneficial for Windows systems that are basically running 24/7 to be rebooted periodically. Is this true, and can someone tell me why. If it's not necessary, I can drop this whole reboot topic all together., , Thanks!

Paradox 10 and Email
I've just begun playing with email within Paradox 10. Using Mail variable to create an email message and to send. However, I've noticed that the message is not actually sent until I actually open my email client. Does the email software have to be opened in order to send the email or am I missing something here?, , Thanks!

The built-in email abilities are limited. For a more independant solution, check out our psSendMail DLL: psSendMail Info Page I realize this is a plug for one of our products, but it's only $30 if it works for you.

Install Fonts Programmatically ?
Does anyone know how to programmatically install a Font to Windows?  We know to copy the font files to the c:\Windows\Font folder but from there?  It seems that you must manually go to the Font folder and double click on the font file to register it in Windows before it will be available to other applications.  There must be a way to get around this manual process? Thanks, Beth

RE: Install Fonts Programmatically ?
Fantastic!  Once again, you've saved the day!  I incorporated that in with the "0" (execute hidden) option and it works like a charm!  Thanks for the info, we'll add the shellExecute method to our bag of goodies!  Smile

Changing the BDE NET DIR on the fly
Does anyone know how to change the BDE NET DIR on the fly WHILE PARADOX IS RUNNING? In a previous thread "chomp" posted that he had done this in the past, but I have not way of getting in touch again. I know that sysInfo() will retrieve this information but how can you post changes? Thanks, Beth

RE: Changing the BDE NET DIR on the fly
Yes, those testing recommendations do make sense and I'll work with those.  The NET DIR (or traffic cop is what I like to call it) is a very touchy subject, because if you mess something up there you can be adversly affected.  I'm not really interested in going down that road...Smile Thanks again for the help!  I think this is really going to benifit our end users!  Thanks, Beth
