Adding at the start of a text string
I’m running into one problem after another with this assignment I’m doing. Harrr. This time it’s about the output file that I’m trying to create with a textStream. I believe I’ve found a partial solution to some of the problems I have if I can add text lines to the start of the text file. I’ve tried it, but no matter what I do, the original first line always get overwritten. I first tried a normal new file open(name,nw). then I tried to create a new file, close it, then open the file in append mode open(name,a). Nothing helps. Is it at all possible to add text to the front of a text stream?

Re: Two TCursors problem
No worries Tony. And thanx for the help with the other issues. Your name is in the coments for helping to sort that one out. I gave up on trying to sort out my boss and I up and quit, right 2 months before the deadline. I had so much stress I was getting an ulcer, so I prioritised and found my health was more important than my job. If I ever need help with OPAL again Il be sure and ask you people. Il never understand why someone would hire a person with a degree and then not listen to him. I didn intend for it to sound like I was blaming you people for anything. Good Luck to yal

Two TCursors problem
Is it at all possible to open two Tcursors on the same table? I have a situation where I have to set a range on a table to find specific records. Then I have to scan through those records one by one and I have to compare them with all the other, to output the groups that go together. I’m thinking I’ll try a second Tcursor to open inside the range and make that scan through the records as well. Then I can compare the Tcursors with each other. Does any one know if this is possible, is there a better way to do this and what would the code look like, especially to open a Tcursor inside a range that’s set up on a first Tcursor? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Re: Adding at the start of a text string
Darn! That kills half of my phylosiphy!!!!! AARRRRRRRRRRRR, , I'm sure there's an easier way to do what i'm trying to do. if i have to store the text stream temporarily I might as well store the data and output to a texstream when i'm done. Thanx dude

Re: I need a file
Welcome to the brotherhood of free men Jeremy! I really hope your first experiance didn't frighten you away. Linux can be a bit trickey at first. One thing i've learnt is that you have to read the help files and howto's and stuff, unlike windows, you don't know that already and it does say something helpfull., , If you really are frightened off, go read this http://www.aaxnet.com/editor/edit029.html report to scare you back onto Linux and off M$., , Good luck with the Linux.

Re: How to keep a form open? App Framework
ROFL RT Big Grin! , I’m just doing what I get paid for. My personal feelings about M$ don’t come into this LOL. Actually I’m trying to imitate a function in an accounting program called pastel, but since we are all database literate I didn’t think any one here would know what that was (It’s for accountants and they don’t really want to know about the database most of the time). Of course I can’t make the same shortcut system they use but I can put in basically the same functionality. Explorer was the closest other thing I can think of that has large shortcut buttons., , Thanks I’ll have a look into that.

Re: Unknown Internal Operating System Error
Take a look around the Paradox Interactive heading. most likely you'll find what you are looking for in there because myself and lots of other newbies have been asking the same questions for a while, and got help from these smart people Big Grin! there's a reach facility at the top of the page and many pages of replies on the subject. Especially look at the posts where i asked about setting up my network. There's a bunch of info in there., As for Paradox, I make my living on it at the moment. I've gotten more and more alergic to M$ products with time. I've never used the integration of the Office stuff that badly, but I'm probably a special case :)

Unknown Internal Operating System Error
Two years ago, our office switched from Paradox 5 to Access 2000, however, I kept all my original Paradox files in our network shared drive. Since our IT director does not care for MS products, we never switched to Word and Excel, but upgraded WordPerfect and QuattroPro without Paradox. This caused a lot of integration problems and the resulting decision was to switch back to Paradox. We now have Paradox 10 and I need to start the conversion process once again. I was attempting to open one of the old Paradox databases I created to see if I could just update them. Although the forms will open, the tables will not. The error message I get is "Unknown Internal operating system error" and it refers to a file named "PDOXUSRS.LCK". This causes the forms to open with blank fields since it cannot read the table. Any ideas on what is causing this?

Chicken or the egg
Just for fun I've decided to move some coments from a post here since I've had some new input:, ,
So what was first the chicken or the egg?, (Leo)

George Carlin answered this question quite nicely., "The chicken is an actual chicken, while an egg is a potential chicken. Since actuality precedes potentiality [in a pristine environment], the chicken had to come first.", (Mac)

Then again... The egg is an actual egg, while the chicken is a potential egg, and even then only under ideal conditions ie it has to be a live chicken, a hen with access to a rooster .... etc etc LOL, (Leo)

The chicken is an egg's way of making another egg, (John Perry Barlow)
There's not actually a great deal one can usefully add to this, except to ask which are the "but it is quite rare in vertabrates" exceptions and would it be wise to avoid having them as pets Confused

Re: Chicken or the egg
There are in fact manny organisms that survice without sexual reproduction but it is quite rare in vertabrates. Interesting story here is that only female weeping willows were imported to Africa. Unable to reproduce through seed like usual, they survive by vegetative reproduction through branches that break off and wash down river. Where-ever it washes up, it may grow roots and turn into a tree, or not :)

Re: Moving Paradox to linux RH7.3 as file server?
I plan to do the same thing! I've had problems installing RH7.3 on my file server cause its new and RH7.3 doesn't support the new south bridge on the motherboard. I'm waiting to get a newer version of Linux - it seems that will be Mandrake8 since I can get that (I have to take what I can get since I live in a 3rd world country) and I'll report anything that happens. :)

XP blind to table restructure
I still have a network mixing XP with win98. A strange phenomenon has occurred that is puzzling as crop circles or something. When we restructure a table on the XP machine the change is invisible from the XP machine. The 98 boxes see the change and it works fine but there is no change according to the XP box. Like wise any restructuring done to tables on a 98 box is visible to all except the XP box. Could it be something I’m missing because it does seem a lot like XP’s fault this time again. Thanks!

Re: XP blind to table restructure
Thanx a lot Tony that's where the gap in my education has been! It will come in mighty handy if we ever allow abother XP pc on our network. That might not happen though and I hope it doesn't. The net works well without XP on it. My company is interested in getting a Linux server so it seems we'll store our project on that using SMB samba protocol that I hear is the same as Network neighborhood. I suppose that will bring all it's own troubles and happiness and i don't think we should complicate it with adding XP in the mix also. 98 and Linux alone should be a hand full. Anyhows thanx again
