Paradox for DOS Topic

Hello, , I know, I know any Paradox 3.5 users should have upgraded years ago. I've got V9 but have many, applications developed in V3.5 that I use daily. They run fine on XP but am I going to be able to run V3.5 on Vista in all modes ( 32 and 64 )?. I've read conflicting info on the subject. I know it doesn't run on XP64 ( no 16 bit support ). Vista is 64 bit also, but I saw somewhere that Microsoft demo'd 64 bit Longhorn / Vista running 16 bit Visicalc !!. This is very important issue to me and I would be most grateful for any feedback., , Thanks. John.

I hope there are still some eyes out there with PfD 4.5 knowledge. I am writing the successor to a Paradox system. Part of the reverse engineering process is understanding the old system. Thanks to Amazon, I've got the "Using Paradox 4.5 for DOS" book from Queue (1993) and a few others (including the "What Every Paradox 4.5 Programmer Should Know," by our host here.) I'm trying to get under the hood of the app, but have been stopped at the door. When I try to get into the Application Editor, I get the error message "Can't find required script." This happens immediately after clicking the system menu --> utilities --> workshop.  Any thoughts? [Edit] I should mention that it is entirely possible that the original developer disabled this functionality to keep the curious (non-technical) staff from tinkering with critical scripts.

Hi people.  I've been running Pdox since 1978.  I'm testing Pdox45 (DOS) on a Windows 7 32 bit installation.  Everything works great with one huge exception:  When tables are on the Netware 5.11 server, only tables with 8-character names will appear in the "View" list.  You can open tables with less characters in their name, if you know ahead of time what the table name is.  Crazy?! Google was no help.  Maybe one of the original Pdox DOS gurus can shed some light on the problem. CHEERS -bill

I am running Paradox for Dos 4.5 on Windows XP. I have set it to run on a Network and it does work however it takes about 4 seconds to access the y: drive which is my Network drive from the 2nd machine. This is just to display a list of tables in the y: directory. I am using a wireless connection to access same. It It then takes a further 5 seconds to actually display any table even one with only 100 records.   I ued to use this on a Novel networ many years ago with perfect speed and believe this must be the way  windows operates this network. Can anyone help please .......

Hi, I've worked as a developer IT for nearly 30 years, with all sorts of technologies, including Paradox (dos and windows), Access, Perl, Java and Javascript. Paradox for Dos (4.5) is still alive and well in a few places.  I recently ran into problems with our infrastructure being migrated to vm-ware.  The old "insufficient space" error seems to have re-appeared - and lesspace doesn't seem to work with virtual drives. Has anyone else struck problems with virtual drives? Cheers, Ric

I need to use a front-end Paradox for DOS 4.0 application to access tables in a SQL Server 2xxx (any version) database.  Any ideas?  Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Tom

Brand new Dell XPS computer with Win XP PRO(at my insistence!)... PDOX 4.5 application is the backbone of my business.  Guess what?  There is NO Centronics Parallel port on this machine...no problem, eh?  $50 USB to IEEE(Centronics) cable from Office Depot installs virtual printer port on USB...Prints like a charm under Windows...Oops!  What's this?  PDOX has no USB printer port selection! Can anyone advise me if there is a way around this?  I print 250 statements every month from my application to a HP 4000 workhorse printer...Oh Noe!,

Greetings!, , I have just logged on to this board for the first time., , I am an ancient programmer and have stuck doggedly to Paradox DOS 4.5. My current data base has 286 scripts in 6 libraries and countless data, code and template tables., , I updated my hardware last week and am trying Windows XP. To my surprise, PDX DOS works in this platform. But I have a problem with calling MS programmes from within it. Under Win 98, I could "Start WinWord.exe xxx.Doc". The DOC is set up to merge with data exported from PDX to a DBF file. I cannot start winword now., , Is anybody else still using Paradox DOS?, If so, any ideas?, , Thanks., , PS: To Webmaster. Run "Start WinWord.Exe DocName.doc", will open DocName in Word . Worked fine in Win95/98, not in WinXP. Tried a batch file, but it will not 'RUN' from within Paradox DOS. , , Any suggestions?, , Thanks.

I want to convert DB's on Paradox 3 to a newer version. I'n running Paradox 3 on Win 3.1 What's my best bet to upgrade. I don't want to have to retype the DB., , Win 3.1 uses 3.5 floppys.

Does anyone knows about a utility or a way to convert Paradox 4.5 scripts (library) to Paradox 9 or 11 ObjectPal. I have just purchased a copy Paradox 11 for this project. My client is very happy with their 4.5 application but would like to migrate it to Paradox 9 or 11. That you for whatever you can do.

I am searching for any help that anyone can give me on the following:, , Currently a colleague is using Win ME (but would upgrade to XP if it solved the problem)., , He wants to run Paradox 4 for DOS on his computer. He was able to do so with Windows 98. He tried just to use the same configuration when he migrated to Windows ME but it did not work., , He does not want to convert to Paradox for Windows because all of his "stuff" is geared to Paradox 4 for DOS., , Can anyone help me to help him?, , Would creating a dual boot system help?, , What configuration changes would be necessary for Paradox 4 to run in an ME environment?, , Or, is there no solution and he is just out of luck?, , As always any help would be appreciated., , Thanks.
