Does Paradox Runtime SP3 contain a virus?
First off, I have been including the pdoxruntime9sp3setup.exe file with my database programs as my source for Paradox Runtime.  Is this the best file, or should I really be using something else? I have had a couple of users indicate that this file contains a virus (Trojan).  This was identified through AVG although I'm finding that Trend Micro also identifies a virus or at least remnants of one.  However checks using Symantec, McAfee and Kaspersky do not indicate any threats.  Can someone tell me if there actually is a virus or not?  I believe it is the AxDistEx.exe file that is in questions.  I have seen mention of this issue in one other post, but its not clear to me why some virus programs are picking this up and some are not.

Paradox 11 Runtime - Unexpected crash
Under certain conditions I recieve the following error when closing a database "The PfW Runtime has stopped working"   , , This occurs when I open a database with the following switches (Sample shortcut command), , "C:\Program Files (x86)\Paradox Runtime\Programs\pdxrwn32.exe" -c -q -wN:\PortData_V11\CoastalAmerican N:\PortData_V11\CoastalAmerican\mainmenu.fdl, , Once the application opens,   it will run as expected until I click the command X on the top right corner of the app window (not the open form, the APP). If I choose File Exit from my menu or if I click the X in the top right of the open form,  it exits properly,  both of those options have code associated with them that shut down the database. Does anyone know the cause of this OR does anyone have a code snippet to intercept the click on the app window? Thanks!

Turns out the runtime was crashing beacause of interdependence of certain libraries.  The order that they were opened and the order that they were closed cause the crash. Open LibA Open LibB  (which also opens LIBA because it has a dependency on LIBA) Open LIBOthers Close LibA Close LibOthers Close LibB   = Crash Simply closing them in the reverse order that they were opened fixed the issue.

Paradox 9 Runtime installation guide
Is it possible to get a copy of the Installation guide for Paradox 9 Runtime? I have not been able to find it anywhere. Actually, it turns out that I also need to get the Paradox 9 Runtime files. I downloaded what I thought were the runtime files from Corel's FTP site, but what I got appears to be Service Packs, which only work with an installed version of the base files. , I am an old Paradox developer supporting a legacy app for a customer who doesn't want to switch. Except for this customer I haven't used Paradox in decades and no longer have any documentation.,

I still don't know why this server went bad and still suspect the remote app publishing change as the cause.  But subsequent experience on other 2008 and 20012 servers makes me think the cfg Configuration|INI|Localshare = True setting would have solved it.  This server was restored from backup prior to the remoteapp publishing, painful, and that resolved it for this machine.

I was successful in changing the embedded icon of the PDXRWN32.exe.  It still works and the new icon is passed on to the shorts cuts designated in the install. It increased the file size by 3KB. Used Icon Changer by Shell labs.  The demo version is limited to three icon changes -- which was enough for my purposes. -Randy

General Protection Violation Printer

I am using Paradox 11 running on Windows XP Professional Version 2002 . When I run a report which can be sent to either the printer or the screen, sometimes I get a General Protection Violation warning. Any solutions to this problem would be appreciated.

Mike

Thanks for that and sorry for my delay in replying . I am new to paradox, I am working on an old system, the problem can occur when an existing report is modified or if the printer being used is not connected directly to the computer. My boss says he has had nothing but printer problems since customers changed to XP

Paradox 9 vs Paradox 10/11
Hi, , Is there some advantage in upgrading an distributable application from Paradox 9 to Paradox 10/11? If yes, can I still buy the versions 10/11, including the runtime? Thanks,

Paradox 11 runtime client Major patching problems
G'day, I have a interesting problem to say the least with Paradox 11 runtime clients. Recently at work we decided that it would be time to move away from Paradox 8 to Paradox 11.  Lots of reasons but mainly to overcome some bugs we experienced in version 8. All our users run windows XP SP3 and use WordPerfect Office X3 standard and yesterday I installed the Paradox 11 runtime clients on all our PC's.  The shipping version of the client is 11.0.0.233. Heres my problem, I want to install service pack 2 for Paradox runtime but the patch wont install because it wants build version 11.0.0.300. So 2 questions, the service pack that was released does it work for the runtime client and secondly is there a patch for the runtime client that will patch me up to build 300 or 302?

where did you find P11 Runtime SP2?.. I have no information on that, and still don't see anything on the Corel site, either.. to answer your question generically.. there have been instances in the past, with Corel, where you need to install the in-between SP.. in this case, for example, that would mean install SP1, then SP2.. no, it shouldn't be that way, but it wouldn't be the first time..

Runtime - 9 Install
I installed the BDE on the network, now the proble is whenever I try to create a distribution package and select the runtime files it also include the BDE. The install programs now overwrites the previous install of the BDE. , 1)Can the runtime files be installed on the network or does it have to be locally distributed?, 2)If Locally distributed, how can I prevent the BDE from being selected?, 3)If I do an uninstall it removes the BDE from the network, unchecking the uninstall feature only prevents the registry entries from being removed, can this be blocked?, 4)Where can I find out which files are included in the runtime files so I can use install shield instead of the the distribution expert and also which ones should be registered.

Runtime9
Has anyone experienced trouble with Navigation bars giving trouble in Runtime9 ? I have a Calendar by Leon Chalnick which works fine on Paradox9 but plays up on PDXRT. I'm hoping that the Word Perfect SP4 will sort the problem out, anyone like to comment on their experience ?, Cheers,, Paul

I have not had any trouble like that with runtime. When you say "Navigation Bars" do you mean the toolbars? Also, are you still having this issue?

Paradox Runtime 9 setup problem
We have installed runtime on a computer and by error used a network drive for the program. Now we are trying to update the program and at the same time putting it on the local drive. The install program will not let us go to the local drive and defaults to the network drive. I have not been able to un-install the program completely to start over. Is there some registry that needs to be deleated or changed?, Thanks, Rick J, rjasperson@vhminfo.com

Did you find a solution to this problem? If not, have you tried deleting the folder from the drive and re-installing?

Problem with Launcher Expert
Paradox really puzzles me, a lot.  I am trying to create a launcher with tabs for my Forms, Reports and Queries.  I used the Launcher Expert but it will not let me re-size the form to the desktop.  The option "Size to desktop" is checked off under preferences but the form will not comply.  When I move the form in Run mode to the place I would like it to be on the screen and then run it, it automatically changes to the original settings where the top of the form is almost at half the page.  When I hit design mode again it stays at the wrong settings.  I don't have this problems with any of my other forms but this is the only one I have used the Launcher Expert to create.  Any ideas?  I could just create it from a blank form but I'm trying to avoid programming all those buttons, I have a lot.  Thanks,  Teresa

Thanks Daniel, Being a novice at Paradox, SQL and Object PAL I was trying to avoid the whole messing with the code thing.  However I cut and pasted the Event coding from another form that was working correctly and it worked  :-) Thanks, Teresa
Originally posted by Paul Castelow:, [qb] Hi Steve, where does the first code go? [/qb]
Uh, er, hunh? I'm not sure what you mean by "the first code"; the method example I showed could be in a library or on a form, and could be used to present a table in a tableView like presentation without running afould of Runtime limitations. Of course you may well want to choose different method and form names.

Nevermind!.. LOL ... figures the day I finally decide to post this I figure it out. It was an NTFS permissions issue on the directory. What is strange is that other users have the same rights and I dont get the error with them AND I had change this users rights on this computer to Admin and I still got it., , But as soon as I went the NTFS permissions for the directory and gave users Write privelages - viola!, , Thanks for the help anyway!

The first two 32-bit versions of Runtime (7 and 8) do not work well with NT technology -- one wonders if all the development was done on Win95 machines. Using Ctrl-Spc to invoke a lookup table will lock up the application completely., , Like Peter, I think you may need to look at upgrading, but I'd say don't bother with anything less than version 9.

Good point Langley. I had forgotten about SetIcon as I've gotten used to using a resource editor., , And to be complete, Tony mentioned "other" techniques for changing the icon of a form too. You can use Langley's suggested SetIcon() for that too., , var, f Form, endvar, , f.attach(), f.setIcon("c:\\temp\\test.ico")
