Upgrade Paradox BDE?
We use Paradox 10. Paradox 10 uses BDE version 5.1.1, , My Question is this can you upgrade to version 5.2 with upgrade paradox?, , I don't really want to change anything in paradox, I just want the lastest BDE. Is this possible?

Just a quick addition to Rick's post. Here at Prestwood IT Solutions, we always stay up to date with the latest versions of the BDE so this shouldn't be a problem at all. In fact, it may make some problems go away.

Paradox 9/10/11 and Vista and Win 7
I found a press release today on the Corel site from about a month ago with this interesting sentence:
In addition, Corel has also released a special update for Paradox X4 that optimizes the database application to work with Windows Vista.
and later on
In addition to downloading and installing SP1, customers who wish to run WordPerfect Office X4 Professional including Paradox X4 on Windows Vista should contact Corel to request a specific Paradox update that optimizes the software to work with Microsoft's latest operating system. Offered on CD, the update is available free to registered users in North America by contacting Corel Customer Support at 1-800-772-6735.
I only have X3 and I don't yet have Vista. Has anyone got the update and tried it? whole press release - [...Corel deleted or moved press release...]

Recent Windows 7 updates crashed Paradox 11?
I dual boot WinXP Pro X32 and Windows 7 X64 Pro on separate drives and run Paradox 11 from WP Office X3 on both.  I mostly use XP and  there are no problems with Pdox after those updates but when I went to use it under Windows 7 today the Project Viewer showed no files in the working directory. Until now there was no problem with the Windows 7 installation.  I uninstalled and reinstalled Pdox and then tried to set Project Viewer to the proper working directory and it crashes.  I've tried this several times.  If I open a table with Explorer Pdox will start and open it but if I try Project Viewer it crashes.  I went to check the BDE settings but I can't seem to find BDE in the control panel or anywhere else in Windows 7.

Could not initialize BDE
I recently instslled Pdox9 on a network computer (locally). The programme I develop ran well . However, when the user logged on, and tried to run Pdox9, we got the following message:, , Paradox Error, Network initialization failed, Directory :C\, File: C:\PDOXUSRS.NET, , Cannot Access network locked file., Continue with network disabled?, , On clicking 'Yes', the following message appeared:, , Could not initialize BDE.:, Network initialization failed, Directory C:\, File: C:\PDOXUSRS.NET, , I know that there is someone out there who can solve the problem. I am asking for some assistance. Thank you very much.

Paradox X5 any changes
Dear Board Members, we have been running paradox for many years, and have Paradox 11 from WP Office Pro 12, installed with a SBS server network and Xp clients. Now have two Windows 7 machines. They run paradox okay but the printing is a real problem as some selections for printers are not working correctly. Has anyone tried the X5 version of Paradox and has anything changed that would make a difference running on Windows 7 machines. The Corel site has very few details and could not even get there pdf to work. Many thanks

The compile error simply means that you have an error in your script.  Probably a typo or undeclared variable. Have you considered what happens when a user starts an update process and then walks away without issuing the unlock script? Use the paradox locking  which you apparently have working.

You need to call Borland and ask for the legal department. They have all the info there., , I do know that Paradox 7 falls under 5D992.b for its ECCN. This means that the encryption used is less than 64-bit and it is classified as retail. Generally, there are very few export restrictions on the products at this level.

GPF When printing
I have a problem with one of my procedures hanging up when sent to the printer. The data doesn't seem to clear out of the tables and the next time that procedure is run it starts to print and ends up with a GPF fault and the process freezes. If I maunally empty the table it will run fine for a couple of times and then GPF again. Any ideas on what I can do to. This is the only procedure I have a problem with.

Cease and Desist: ParadoxCommunity no more!
According to a post by Tony McGuire to comp.databases.paradox, Corel's lawyers have sent a "cease and desist" letter saying that the use of the domain names ParadoxCommunity.com and ParadoxDay.com will no longer be permitted., So what is it with Corel, that they don't want anybody saying something good about their product and drumming up interest?, Sheesh!

Unknown Internal Operating System Error
Two years ago, our office switched from Paradox 5 to Access 2000, however, I kept all my original Paradox files in our network shared drive. Since our IT director does not care for MS products, we never switched to Word and Excel, but upgraded WordPerfect and QuattroPro without Paradox. This caused a lot of integration problems and the resulting decision was to switch back to Paradox. We now have Paradox 10 and I need to start the conversion process once again. I was attempting to open one of the old Paradox databases I created to see if I could just update them. Although the forms will open, the tables will not. The error message I get is "Unknown Internal operating system error" and it refers to a file named "PDOXUSRS.LCK". This causes the forms to open with blank fields since it cannot read the table. Any ideas on what is causing this?

access violation error
Any ideas on how to resolve this error when clicking on the table lookup tab in the table info dialogue?  Running Win XP Service Pak 2, and Paradox 11.0.0.411. Access violation at address 00A7F6AC in module 'PXDCRT32.dll'. Read of address 00000000.

Hello, This has mostly to do with fact that Paradox is not completely compatible with Windows 7, and above. When do you run this problem having table on a machine with older version, it will work 99%. Suc6 Adam

Windows 10
Hi there For those of you still running Paradox I can tell you, that it runs very well on Windows 10. No errors and very fast and stable. No problems with BDE either. Only problem we have is using PDFCreator printing PDF directly in the code. But only in some cases. Need to check my code for this. No need to change for anything else due to new Windows version. Atleast we will stick to our Paradox solution as long as we can. Peter

Error: attempt to access unknown file past its end
Remotely supporting a user who is getting the following message on trying, to open Paradox:, , "An attempt was made to access an unknown file past it's end", , This follows a long wait with just the Paradox9 splash dialog and an hour, glass., , I couldn't find a reference to this in Bertil's error message page, and on, the web the only hits seem to be in support sites forother programs: Roxio, and Reference Manager., , Paradox 9, XP Home SP1, P4 2.2GHz, 256MB RAM (!!!  -  yes, yes, I know, but, her boss is on vacation otherwise it'd already be up to a gig), , , The same user has often got messages that her virtual memory was below, minimums, but after walking her through manually setting it to 768/1536, that may have disappeared., ,

Unexpected General Protection Violation
Hi All, I have a very weird issue that I wonder if anyone else has seen or resolved.  Running Pdox 11.0.0.411 on Windows 7, I get an Unexpected General Protection Violation EVERY time I pass my mouse over a point on the Status Bar just above where the Start button on the Task Bar is located and anywhere to the left side of the Pdox window from that point to the left. This happens whether I have Auto Hide activated or not for the task bar.  Aside from the aggravation, it does not seem to have any impact on my data or or anything else.  This happens on more than one of my computers with the same configuration.,

Paradox 10 on Windows 7
I seems to have successfully loaded Paradox 10 (from WPO 2002). However, I am having problems in the data model. 1.) The table lables are not entirely readable 2.) Linking tables is doable, except that te screen gets "smudgy." If I drag the DM window down and back up, the image is clear. Loading the windows help program from MS did not work, but I haven't given this much energy and am not sure that I was doing it properly.

If you're using Paradox 9, make sure to upgrade to SP3 or SP4. There's a similar paradox in regards to Facebook. Start Paradox to make certain it's working correctly. You should try 70-537 dumps Questions and Answers to survive in Microsoft Certifications.

p13 losing settings
I've recently installed Paradox 13 (v11.0.0.411) on a new winxp system. I made all the usual customizations in the BDE - and those work fine. But within Paradox I set a number of things, including window size/location, working directory, and various other preferences. Now the odd part is that about once a day or so (no pattern than I've been able to find so far) when I launch Paradox, it acts like I've never set any preferences reverting to the default settings., , Any suggestions as to why this is happening?, , (I've been using many versions of Paradox on many computers over the years, but I've never had this problem before!), , -David

I'm not wanting to extend this thread unnecessarily, but for the purpose of overcoming this annoying quirk, I have a script which is available to anyone who wants.  It then saves having to trawl through the registery. I simply run it from my working directory and bingo. "Where have all the flowers gone...?" On the assumption that I won't be deluged with E Mails, contact me at ross.downes@xtra.co.nz,
