Paradox 9/10/11 and Vista and Win 7
I found a press release today on the Corel site from about a month ago with this interesting sentence:
In addition, Corel has also released a special update for Paradox X4 that optimizes the database application to work with Windows Vista.
and later on
In addition to downloading and installing SP1, customers who wish to run WordPerfect Office X4 Professional including Paradox X4 on Windows Vista should contact Corel to request a specific Paradox update that optimizes the software to work with Microsoft's latest operating system. Offered on CD, the update is available free to registered users in North America by contacting Corel Customer Support at 1-800-772-6735.
I only have X3 and I don't yet have Vista. Has anyone got the update and tried it? whole press release - [...Corel deleted or moved press release...]

I'll repeat my comments from the newsgroup, we have a different audience here first, you should be using p11 0676, not 0411.. probably minor, if at all, but it's totally external second, I'm not aware of it testing anything "non-paradox".. it's testing that every table is valid, every linked table is valid, and every val file is valid

Windows 10
Hi there For those of you still running Paradox I can tell you, that it runs very well on Windows 10. No errors and very fast and stable. No problems with BDE either. Only problem we have is using PDFCreator printing PDF directly in the code. But only in some cases. Need to check my code for this. No need to change for anything else due to new Windows version. Atleast we will stick to our Paradox solution as long as we can. Peter

An error was triggered in the 'qlocate' method on an object of TCursor type....TCursor not opened.  Our server is Windows 2012 Any help is appreciated.

F:\IDAPI\BDE\idapi.cfg that way, they're all pointing to one file.. if you change anything, you only change it once in THAT file, make sure it says the net file is in that same folder, too

Paradox on Windows 10 Locking Up
I have a customer that insists on continuing to use Paradox. We have the files stored on a file server that has a share that is mapped to all users workstations as a drive. It has been working fine for years. Recently, we migrated the server to from 2008 R2 to 2016. We now have users complaining about the application locking up especially if inactive for a while. I'm wondering if anyone has an ideas to prevent this from happening? Thanks, Jeff

Paradox on Windows Server 2012
We migrated from using a run of the mill Windows XP box as a server to Windows Server 2012; one of the applications we use is a simple 3 table database which stopped working the moment the files were being accessed from the new server. We could see data but trying to add anything would result in a Lock Time Out error. I discovered that if I remove Referential Integrity from the detail table structure, and just assign it through the data model on the form, everything works. Would it be OK to leave it like that? or would it be somehow dangerous for the integrity of the data? Could the problem have come from some setting on the server? The person who installed the server for us doesn't think so but I'm not sure he is as familiar with Windows 2012 Server as I thought. For the time being I will be monitoring the data and checking that nothing is lost. Any suggestions? Thanks

Has anyone had any experience with running a Paradox 10 Application (via Runtime) on a Citrix Server or any multi-user environment., , We are currently running our apps on a variety of Windows op sys / desktop pc's. We are interested in possibly moving to a Citrix Server but have no experience. What are the differences between the two? And any stags we may face...., , Thanks for the help!

The compile error simply means that you have an error in your script.  Probably a typo or undeclared variable. Have you considered what happens when a user starts an update process and then walks away without issuing the unlock script? Use the paradox locking  which you apparently have working.

Index out of Date
Hi all, I have run Paradox 8 on a Server 2003 for over a decade using RDP sessions with dozens of users.  I upgraded to Paradox 11 and Windows 10 clients.  All still fine.  This week, though, I migrated my database from a Server 2003 to a Server 2016.  All programs run fine but I am getting multiple index out of dates each day when multiple users save data in the tables.  So far, I have: 1.  Disabled write cache on drives 2.  Excluded database directories and c:\netdir directory from Windows Defender scanning 3.  Edited LanmanServer and LanmanWorkstation to add keys 'enableoplocks'=0 and 'disableoplocks'=1 4.  Local share on BDE=true 5.  All sessions map to the same c:\netdir for control file and use same path to database tables Any help from those who have succeeded with a Server 2016 hosting tables in an RDS environment would be greatly appreciated.

Paradox 10 hanging since upgrade to Windows 10
Hi, Has anyone managed to get Paradox 10 working satisfactorily on Windows 10? Care to share your setup please? We upgraded to Windows 10 last week and since then Paradix hangs 4-5 times a day. We manage to get it going again by having everyone log off and deleting all the lock files but it's getting a but frustrating. We have our data in a shared folder and everyone is pointing to the same .NET file. I've tried every suggestion I've seen here and elsewhere with no luck so far. Any tips, pointers, suggestions gratefully received.  Thanks  Delordson

Chimney Sweep.. but for most folks, I say that you don't want an automated routine cuz it makes it more likely that you won't actually look at the results after the repair.. REAL damage will show easily, via bad number and date values and/or missing records

Lock on Paradox Link to Spreadsheet
I have Paradox 11 and Corel X6 with Quattro Pro. Within the spreadsheet I have several links to Paradox tables. Something got corrupted and the system crashed, leaving me unable to open the spreadsheet, From another work station I was able to open the spreadsheet files and disable the links, which now allows me to open the spreadsheet. But whenever I try to re-establish the links the spreadsheet locks up. Otherwise, everything works fine. I have reinstalled Quattro Pro, Paradox and BDE but that didn't help. The work station has Win 7/64 and have tried to restore the OS to an earlier point but the restore utility fails. I'm guessing that I will need to get the HD reformatted and reinstall the OS. Before I make that leap, has anyone seen anything similar or have any thoughts on how to make the DB-spreadsheet links work again.

Cease and Desist: ParadoxCommunity no more!
According to a post by Tony McGuire to comp.databases.paradox, Corel's lawyers have sent a "cease and desist" letter saying that the use of the domain names ParadoxCommunity.com and ParadoxDay.com will no longer be permitted., So what is it with Corel, that they don't want anybody saying something good about their product and drumming up interest?, Sheesh!

Paradox 10 "invalid alias"
When I try to export a database, ( File | Export ) I am getting a cryptic "invalid alias" message in the message bar. No further info. I must have screwed up my settings somewhere and cannot find what alias it is referring to. My :priv: and :work: aliases are working fine.

Cottage.. there is only one active cfg file at a time.. unless you're actually deploying multiple configurations, depending on which client/app you're working on, having more than one can create oppotunities for confusion the first two, the "bars" configs, are for the toolbars.. yes, if they get hosed, they can be deleted

We define large databases as greater than 500,000. We have a number of our own databases with more than 10 million records. We run client databases in 600-700 thousand segments. All code runs 4-5 times slower. Regards, Rich

Recent Windows 7 updates crashed Paradox 11?
I dual boot WinXP Pro X32 and Windows 7 X64 Pro on separate drives and run Paradox 11 from WP Office X3 on both.  I mostly use XP and  there are no problems with Pdox after those updates but when I went to use it under Windows 7 today the Project Viewer showed no files in the working directory. Until now there was no problem with the Windows 7 installation.  I uninstalled and reinstalled Pdox and then tried to set Project Viewer to the proper working directory and it crashes.  I've tried this several times.  If I open a table with Explorer Pdox will start and open it but if I try Project Viewer it crashes.  I went to check the BDE settings but I can't seem to find BDE in the control panel or anywhere else in Windows 7.

    Paradox start up
I have 2 PCs both with Paradox 9 loaded.  On starting the main PC Paradox loads and displays whatever working directory I was using the last time Paradox was started.  The 2nd PC which accesses the same datbase files over a wireless network looses the working directory every time one exits paradox and closes the PC down.  Strangely if I close paradox and then restart paradox without turning off the PC then it loads correctly and displays the last working directory.  The database files on the main PC are mapped as a drive and accessed accordingly over the network.  I have checked all the settings but so far have drawn a blank.  Any suggestions?  I hope this is posted in an appropriate place, I was not sure where to put such a query.

Im running Paradox 9 on a Tosh...
I'm running Paradox 9 on a Toshiba Satellite L305-S5894 with Vista. Paradox periodically crashes when I either: 1. try to sort a table 2. close out a table. These crashes are inconsistent.  Sometime I can sort a table with no problem.  If Paradox crashes during a sort, when I open it up again and then try to sort the same same table, the sort works. I never had this problem with an older Toshiba running XP.,

As Mike recommends...check your version. The service packs are everything.   The fact that the crash occcurs with large tables makes me think about block size.  I'd take a look at the paradox settings on the BDE config file at work, and match the settings at home.  Block size, language driver...and so on. Table repair can't hurt and might provide a clue. Randy
