Upgrade Paradox BDE?
We use Paradox 10. Paradox 10 uses BDE version 5.1.1, , My Question is this can you upgrade to version 5.2 with upgrade paradox?, , I don't really want to change anything in paradox, I just want the lastest BDE. Is this possible?

Just a quick addition to Rick's post. Here at Prestwood IT Solutions, we always stay up to date with the latest versions of the BDE so this shouldn't be a problem at all. In fact, it may make some problems go away.

Assisted dialing using the PC speakers
I hadn't been able to "1 click" dial a phone number since paradox 7 - 16 bit. Since then, I went cable modem (no more modem anyway) and in the last week developed a quick "dialer" of sorts (if focus is on a record with a valid phone number, a "Dial" pushbutton appears). , , It works - but it's pretty ugly. My big problem is that for each tone (pair) to be played, OLE launches the media player - "plays" 1 number, exits, then must launch again to play the second number, etc., , My question then: Does anyone know how to or if its even possible to launch the media player once - then pass the tones to it (wav files) with appropriate waits in between? (-And when done - then close the media player-) , , Thanks.

New Message Board Look
Hi all, This weekend I deployed a new message board look and I'm interested in your thoughts.
  • New Overview main page - gives easy access to most popular data (boards, recent threads, and no reply threads).,
  • No groups on left menu - the left side menu was getting too complex so I removed the links to groups in favor of a list on the overview page. Now you don't have to scroll down to go to your favorite board.,
  • All Topics (the old main page) is now an option in the left side menu.,
  • Updated text.
  • Let me know what you think!

I really like the new color changes. At least I think they're new. I like the blue and green. Pretty nice. The use  of gray seems to be up too. That's a good thing.

Paradox 9/10/11 and Vista and Win 7
I found a press release today on the Corel site from about a month ago with this interesting sentence:
In addition, Corel has also released a special update for Paradox X4 that optimizes the database application to work with Windows Vista.
and later on
In addition to downloading and installing SP1, customers who wish to run WordPerfect Office X4 Professional including Paradox X4 on Windows Vista should contact Corel to request a specific Paradox update that optimizes the software to work with Microsoft's latest operating system. Offered on CD, the update is available free to registered users in North America by contacting Corel Customer Support at 1-800-772-6735.
I only have X3 and I don't yet have Vista. Has anyone got the update and tried it? whole press release - [...Corel deleted or moved press release...]

    Barcode only works with asterisk
Hi We want to bring our order-number as a barcode on paper. The number is an Integer in the field. For this we use a Code 39 font, and the barcode looks all right on paper, but can not be read by the scanner. Only if we change the field to Alpha and put in * as start and stop character it works. Any idea how to aviod the asterisk, and anyone who knows a font where it works 'out of the box' ? Can the setup for scanner be changed  ? Using PDX11. Best regards Peter

Steal someones php code or settings?
Is there a way to download a php file from a website? I want to make sure my php files and settings are secure so no one can get into my sql database or see my password information or see any of my php code. What are some secure methods i can do to make sure no one can steal my php code or settings ? The company i work for recently created custom php code that our customers will go to our site and type in personal information and order certain products, i just want to make sure there is no way a person can try to access our files ( we have customers personal information on our server ) since all the files will be on our server... Anyone have more input on this ?

    CheckRow Failing
Anybody know why the query method CheckRow will not work? I have had problems with this in the past and have worked around it but it is becoming a real pain in the ass., If I print a message of the method return it says "True". But the query doesn't work and if I write the query it to a file and open it it later says "No checked fields". Looks like a bug to me. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

    PARADOX 3.5 - RUN ON VISTA ?
Hello, , I know, I know any Paradox 3.5 users should have upgraded years ago. I've got V9 but have many, applications developed in V3.5 that I use daily. They run fine on XP but am I going to be able to run V3.5 on Vista in all modes ( 32 and 64 )?. I've read conflicting info on the subject. I know it doesn't run on XP64 ( no 16 bit support ). Vista is 64 bit also, but I saw somewhere that Microsoft demo'd 64 bit Longhorn / Vista running 16 bit Visicalc !!. This is very important issue to me and I would be most grateful for any feedback., , Thanks. John.

Couple of options: 1.Run Dosemu in Linux. 2. Run older version of windoze in VMWare.  VMWare works great on RedHat and other Linux versions. Option 2 works best. Hapoy Computing!

    'Access violation at address...' error
Hello pals,, , I have a Delphi application connecting to an Oracle database sitting on a Citrix server. When I try to do certain things I get an error 'Access violation at address...' The application was not developed inhouse and I do not know Delphi & Citrix so I can't guess why I get the error message. I get this message even when I am logged in as administrator on the citrix server and try to open a client session from there. The application runs without any problem on Windows NT/98. The problem seems to be specific to Citrix and Delphi, can anybody please help., , Hope I have given enough details., , Thanks,, Confused , -Shyami
