Reading Paradox tables from Access 2007
I have an Access application that imports data from Paradox tables in an existing, external application (Timeslips by Sage). App was originally written in Access 2003 and I was able to link to several Paradox tables and read them successfully (no update is required). We upgraded to Access 2007 and the existing Paradox links work just fine but I have been unable to create new read-only links to more of the Timeslips' Paradox tables. The new Import wizard assumes a read-write link and then fails with the error:      "Unexpected error from external database driver (11010)." Development is on a Windows7 64-bit machine and deployed to a WindowsXP machine (soon to be upgraded to Windows7). I've tried linking on both machines and NoGo. I've also tried searching the web for code that could handle this but to no avail. Any suggestions as to how I can accomplish this?  Thanks very much.,

Paradox 9/10/11 and Vista and Win 7
I found a press release today on the Corel site from about a month ago with this interesting sentence:
In addition, Corel has also released a special update for Paradox X4 that optimizes the database application to work with Windows Vista.
and later on
In addition to downloading and installing SP1, customers who wish to run WordPerfect Office X4 Professional including Paradox X4 on Windows Vista should contact Corel to request a specific Paradox update that optimizes the software to work with Microsoft's latest operating system. Offered on CD, the update is available free to registered users in North America by contacting Corel Customer Support at 1-800-772-6735.
I only have X3 and I don't yet have Vista. Has anyone got the update and tried it? whole press release - [...Corel deleted or moved press release...]

I'll repeat my comments from the newsgroup, we have a different audience here first, you should be using p11 0676, not 0411.. probably minor, if at all, but it's totally external second, I'm not aware of it testing anything "non-paradox".. it's testing that every table is valid, every linked table is valid, and every val file is valid

The controversial H1-B visa program was increased by lobbying groups such as TechNet several years ago. Windows 10
Hi there For those of you still running Paradox I can tell you, that it runs very well on Windows 10. No errors and very fast and stable. No problems with BDE either. Only problem we have is using PDFCreator printing PDF directly in the code. But only in some cases. Need to check my code for this. No need to change for anything else due to new Windows version. Atleast we will stick to our Paradox solution as long as we can. Peter

Error to innitialize BDE
Again with me and the XP box I The application we are creating in Pdox9sp3 did work on the XP workstation running from the server. The settup uses a shared IDAPI.CFG on server harddrive thats mapped as G on all the workstations. The IDAPI points to the .NET file thats on G also. Suddenly the app won't run on the XP workstation any more with this error:, , Could not initialize BDE.:, You have attemted to open a database that is in use by someone else, but the database cannot be shared. you must set the location for the .NET control file., , The workstation can access the app and edit the files but the program won't run., , I'm thinking XP's is living on that workstation on borrowed time. Next error i'm whiping it. Harrrrr, , I'll be very appreciative of any help though :)

Unknown internal operating system error
I cut and paste images into an image field on a Paradox form and I've been doing this with no problems for years; yesterday I got a message saying 'Unknown internal operating system error' with a reference to the .MB file, when I tried to paste an image in. Paradox hung. After restarting, I verified and rebuilt the table and it imported the image ok but when I tried to do it with a new record the same thing happened. I'm using Paradox 10.0.0.663 running on a Lenovo laptop with Vista Home Premium and Service Pack 2. The database has 121,900 records in it but not all of them have images. Does anyone know what might be causing this? Any help would be appreciated, thanks.,

Thanks!  I've used ChimneySweep before (probably have a license for it!), but I'd forgotten about it.  Thanks for the heads-up/reminder!  I'll check it out.  (As I recall, it was very useful in fixing things that the built-in "fixer" couldn't fix.  I'll try to dig it up & see what it can do with these memo fields!) Thanks again! Aloha, -pt

Multi-form questions
I have 2 forms. On form 1, the user makes a selection from a table, then pushes a button which opens form 2. This is my attempt to get around not being able to filter detail tables on a form. In other words, form 1 acts as a filter. This all works fine, if form 2 isn't already open., , My question is how to check whether form 2 is open and close it if it is. Or manipulate the tables in form 2 with it open., , Harry

Finding work in a down market
As a result of an extended discussion in the H1B thread, I suggested that we start a new topic on brainstorming ideas for finding work in the current market. This includes job hunting tips as well as ideas for software products to develop or software services to offer., , The idea is to have everyone throw out as many ideas as possible with the intention that those who are out of work grab any useful ones and use them to get a job, get a contract with a user, or start developing a product to sell. Any of these are better than sitting by the phone waiting for it to ring!, , So, everyone, if you have any ideas that you are willing to share, please pitch them in now!

Even I should know how to do this...!
Hi, I have this trivial code on the newValue event of a date field on a form: var,   tcTick tCursor, endVar If self.value = "",    then,       msgStop("Whew !" Tickles completed through   " + string (tickDate)), endIf It displays my msgStop dialog when it shouild, but when I clear that dialog, Paradox displays its "At end of table" announcement. I've experimented with no success, but can't figure out how to prevent the Paradox dialog for displaying. Might you assist? Many thanks, Lothar ,    , ,

Paradox on Windows 10 Locking Up
I have a customer that insists on continuing to use Paradox. We have the files stored on a file server that has a share that is mapped to all users workstations as a drive. It has been working fine for years. Recently, we migrated the server to from 2008 R2 to 2016. We now have users complaining about the application locking up especially if inactive for a while. I'm wondering if anyone has an ideas to prevent this from happening? Thanks, Jeff

that is where it was then when you suggested I look into the connection string being the problem i moved it out and it worked. All my other files are using an include file, I am just a little apprehensive to mess with it again.

Max Library Size
Is there a maximum library size that one should stay under. The reason I ask is that I am experiencing quite a few General Protection Faults and I am uncertain as to why. I know in the past that we encountered this problem with calling a windows dll from the uses block. Someone told me that Paradox had a problem with Windows libraries over 64K. Does this 64K size apply to all libraries?

Paradox on Windows Server 2012
We migrated from using a run of the mill Windows XP box as a server to Windows Server 2012; one of the applications we use is a simple 3 table database which stopped working the moment the files were being accessed from the new server. We could see data but trying to add anything would result in a Lock Time Out error. I discovered that if I remove Referential Integrity from the detail table structure, and just assign it through the data model on the form, everything works. Would it be OK to leave it like that? or would it be somehow dangerous for the integrity of the data? Could the problem have come from some setting on the server? The person who installed the server for us doesn't think so but I'm not sure he is as familiar with Windows 2012 Server as I thought. For the time being I will be monitoring the data and checking that nothing is lost. Any suggestions? Thanks

Libraries
I‘ve taken libraries that were originally made in previous versions of paradox. I have successfully resaved them under paradox 9 with no syntax errors. Then I deliver them. Problem is when I try to reference the delivered library vs the source, I get an error that this file doesn‘t have any symbol table information. Anybody know why?

I read somewhere that paradox puts the command into some sort of queue and makes you think it worked. I finally got it to work. It must be the very last line of code before endmethod. Not even an endif statement can be after it. Supposedly you can leave a form open by trapping for an eventID. I haven't tried that yet. This particular thing I was working on was just a script. Didn't used to be so touchie.
