Mike Prestwood | Prestwood name changeWe're thinking about changing the name of our company from Prestwood Software & Consulting to just Prestwood Software. The original thought behind the longer name was that we wanted everyone to be able to identify by our name that we are a consulting firm and software maker. The reason we're thinking about shortening it is because it is shorter. Prestwood Software & Consulting is harder say, longer to write, etc. So the central question is, "Is the '&Consulting' required?", , Any thoughts? 15 replies. Last post: | ScottCybak | I missed this thread a while ago - but if it's worth anything, i thought the previously mentioned "Psst" was great! |

Sorry folks, being an expert in Paradox is like being a Novell expert, no one cares, the game is over. I couldn't find it in the online Pardox help either., Could somebody enlighten me?, rt 12 replies. Last post: | Leonard | You know what's so geat about the old style sneakers? Jocat | I'm new here Hello everyone. This is the first forum I have ever joined. I'm an accounting/finance type who started doing a lot of programming in Microsoft Access. People call me an expert, but my definition of an expert is anyone who knows a little more than you do., , Originally I wrote applications for myself, so I didn't have to worry about the user-friendliness. I would write queries to extract the information I needed at the time. However, I am now writing Access Applications for other departments and have to make them very user-friendly. Everything has to be automatic, therefore, i must utilize macros, etc and create user friendly forms. That is where my problems begin and I hope I can find solutions within this group., , I'll offer any help I can, but don't expect much of me at first., , Be talking to you., , Jocat |

Mike Prestwood | New Message Board Software Hi all,
I spent today updating our message board software. Now you can reply to the middle of a thread. Some message board software use this approach and some use our old approach. I like this new approach because when you reply to a thread it "feels" like you are replying to the whole thread and someone who posted before you could get hurt feelings because they think you are talking about them.
I also enhanced some of the display and formatting.
Enjoy!

Mike Prestwood | New Message Board Look Hi all,
This weekend I deployed a new message board look and I'm interested in your thoughts.
New Overview main page - gives easy access to most popular data (boards, recent threads, and no reply threads)., No groups on left menu - the left side menu was getting too complex so I removed the links to groups in favor of a list on the overview page. Now you don't have to scroll down to go to your favorite board., All Topics (the old main page) is now an option in the left side menu., Updated text.Let me know what you think!

rt | Trouble at mill?Have you been having problems with the boards or server thingies as for the last couple of days it has been taking what seems like hours to load the boards? Other web pages seem to behave as normal and there is no difference if I use another ISP. , By the way 'trouble at mill' is some strange olde north of England expression which appears to mean 'trouble at mill'and probably of the cotton variety during the industrial revolution when CPM was invented., rt 9 replies. Leo | Chicken or the egg Just for fun I've decided to move some coments from a post here since I've had some new input:, ,
So what was first the chicken or the egg?, (Leo)

George Carlin answered this question quite nicely., "The chicken is an actual chicken, while an egg is a potential chicken. Since actuality precedes potentiality [in a pristine environment], the chicken had to come first.", (Mac)

Then again... The egg is an actual egg, while the chicken is a potential egg, and even then only under ideal conditions ie it has to be a live chicken, a hen with access to a rooster .... etc etc LOL, (Leo)

The chicken is an egg's way of making another egg, (John Perry Barlow)
8 replies. Mike Prestwood | New Quote Post Feature! Now you can quote a particular thread post as part of your reply. Check out the new Quote option that is part of every post.
I also cleaned up the thread view so that it looks a bit cleaner and contains more white space. Each post of a thread is now separated from the other replies and the thread starter always gets a white background (the rest alternate between light gray and lighter gray).
Enjoy!

Mike Prestwood | Server Slow Down I just got back from camping in South Lake Tahoe and found the message boards have been slooowwww for days. I rebooted the server and it seems to be working fine now...hmmm...not sure why. I don't know if it was resources, a virus, or a hacker. Oh well., , Tomorrow morning I'm heading back to South Lake Tahoe for camping (my family is there now). I came back to meet with a client for Delphi training for the day). I'll be back Monday. Until then I'll have someone here check the boards daily. |

That way you can purchase your programming toolset for around $100 + the price of the class, which should be around $50 or less. That's around $800 of software for around $150.
