.NET VFP Rivalry
I have been hearing a lot as of recently, that there is a rivalry between Visual FoxPro and >NET. For what I understand, users will use one or the other but refuse to use both. Is it true and if so, why? , , I ask simply because I am currently trying to place a position(look under job postings) and there just is VERY little response, and I keep hearing about this rivalry as the reason., , What the heck is going on?

I've never heard of this rivalry.  Certainly there are languages that I prefer to work in but I don't think I'd ever flat out refuse to code in a certain language (especially if the boss told me to). I'm curious to hear some of the responses and feedback you have received in regards to this 'rivalry' and I'd love to hear from some people who code in one and will not code in the other and their reasoning, etc.

Connecting to Paradox tables using VS.NET
How do I go about connecting to Paradox tables using VS.NET. I'm new to VS.NET and at the moment feel VB.NET is the way to go. We currently only require to read the Paradox tables (if that makes life easier). We are starting to develop Web sites and initially will access data contained within our legacy Paradox CRM applications. Regards Jon

Wes, Many thanks for your reply. I have tried to follow your steps. Creating the ODBC is fine. When I come to adding the textbox and accessing the Data | Data Bindings Property I do not have an Advanced option only the '...' button which opens a form entitled 'Textbox1 DataBindings'. This form has all the properties of the textbox but no mention of enabling binding or clicking 'Add Project Datasource' I'm using VS 2003 btw Regards Jon

Have you put a primary key on the table? Sounds like it's not indexed.

Which Palm should I get?
Help me out, I can't decide which Palm to get. I'm currently looking at the new m505 and Sony's new CLIE PEG-N710C. I like the Sony because it has a built in MP3 player and I like the m505 because there is a Franklin version of it and I use a Franklin planner. The m505 doesn't have an MP3 player and the Sony is on OS 3.5.2., , Does it matter what OS? Any advice?

Thanks. I ended up getting a Palm m505 and love it. It is slim and color. No mp3 player but I have a dedicated mp3 player with 128 MB so I agree with your thoughts on that issue.

eMembedded VB 3.0
I'm in the process of writing a simple/small application for my Wife. The database will be a tab delimited text files. IÆd eventually like to port the program to a WinCE Palm device and code it using eMbedded VB 3.0. However, I havenÆt purchased the device yet. My Wife isnÆt big on using PDAÆs, so IÆll probably buy one on eBay cheap. (B/W display, CE 2.0), , HereÆs my question. How can I know, prior to purchasing the device, if my compiled (eMbedded) program will run on the device? The eMbedded specs detail the requirements for the development machine but not the target machine. So, can I buy a WinCE 2.0 machine or must I buy the newer 3.0?, , If you can point me to the correct documentation, that would be much appreciated., , Thanks., , Don

Doing a comprehensive Google search, I found a URL that looks like a good place to start finding the answer:, , PocketPC Developer's Network/eMbeddedVB , , It seems that you need to specify the target SDK when you begin your eVB app. Not only does the CE version affect the deployment, but the processor as well (ARM, MIPS, SH3, SH4, etc.)., , Let us know if you find the answer...

Getting started with Palm programming.
The best place to get started with Palm programming is at www.palmos.com/dev/gettingstarted.html. This area of the Palm OS site contains good overview, Palm OS SDK, Palm OS Emulator, and info on suggested tools., , If you're a Delphi developer, take a look at PocketStudio. It's kind of like Delphi for the PocketStudio: www.pocket-technologies.com

I performed comparison between several devt products : as I'm not a deep c++ developer, my choice pointed on CASL-PRO from CASLsoft. I develop with it for several months, I really enjoy. Have a look at caslsoft.com

In reeference to previous post. It's often suggested that emplyee be derived from person but since being an employee is a persons relationship with a company it can often be more appropriate to model this with a relationship class. Ie. , RElationship, |, Employee (person*, company* and other employee attribs)

My compaq crashed , please tell me how I can install windows 98 from dos without formatting my hard drive. DOS appears to work fine, and I have my Windows CD plus a restore CD that restores all the software that came with the computer. , What I don't want to lose are some of the files in MY DOCUMENTS. If I can get windows intstalled then I can use my CD burner to back up those files. PLease let me know if there is a way to install windows from DOS without losing these files.

Windows 10 BDE Lck issue
Hello I have a paradox 10 app that has been solid for over 10 years in a network multiuser environment. I am aware of all the settings required for normal operation. Recently I had a hard drive crash and purchased a new laptop running windows 10. This laptop runs a ssd as well as a hdd. I have a test environment on this laptop. No outside network comunication. All directories are on a seperate partition. Initially I had an issue that was solved by disabling the drive cache and oplocks. However, it seems to have come back. Initially the app seems fine. But after a bit of use table "add" commands start to fail with either a gpv or application freeze. Clearing lcks temporarily fixes the problem. I am totally stumped. Deploying the app to the network with windows 7 and windows 10 machines results in no problems. I only have issue in my test environment on my laptop. Any ideas? Windows 10 bde 5.202 local share true Lyndon

I have disabled cache on both the ssd and hdd. Moving all directories to one or the other has no effect on the problem.
