Trouble at mill?

Have you been having problems with the boards or server thingies as for the last couple of days it has been taking what seems like hours to load the boards? Other web pages seem to behave as normal and there is no difference if I use another ISP.
By the way 'trouble at mill' is some strange olde north of England expression which appears to mean 'trouble at mill'and probably of the cotton variety during the industrial revolution when CPM was invented.

What browser are you using? Although we've fully tested with IE 5.5 and NS 6, I've noticed NS 4.7 is a dog and some pages never come up. The problem is with Cascading Style Sheets (CSS). Netscape blew that big time. Let me know what browser you're using because the boards should come up under 1 second. This is true as long as you are using your browsers cache feature and after you've visited once.

Well, not maybe hours but certainly 10 mins to load a page and it went on for couple of days.

Yes it is quicker, but nowhere as near as fast has it has been - actually I think it was faster pre-the-board-newlook. Anyway I've been timing it with 3 differnt ISPs and the best I can get to load from, say AltaVista as starting point, is 2mins 45 sec! The various pages from clicking on a link to being fully displayed are never less that 30 secs and often over a minute.
Nothing else that I can find on the web seems to have changed very much at all and the computer churns on as normal, so is it something on the site?

I've got a couple more computers here at home with varying browsers and ISPs on 'em, so I'll do a little market research and be back hopefullu later on.

Well, IE 4 & 5 are about the same, that is still as slow as wet week!
NS 4.7, has just proved itself to be the proverbial dog should be put down... but having said that it used to work quite happily but now crashes when it sees the Prestwood address - is it trying to tell us something?

And, but not least, if I log onto Prestwood.com then that fires up pretty quickly - the problem is when going to other pages or as I normally do, try log directly onto to etc etc/cgi-bin/ubb/ultimatebb.cgi .

As a thought could this be the reason why posts on the boards are appearing to flag a little? I have to admit that I have a low level threshold on the Stop Button when it comes to slow loading web pages...
Any help? rt

Well, we did have to move servers around a little yesterday. But that took just a few minutes. Perhaps you stumbled across the boards during that down-time.

So, are the slow loads still going on? Maybe there's something in the UBB we need to fix.

Today, I'm monitoring the boards from home. DSL connection with 384K speed, only two whistle-stops from Prestwood Junction.

I see what you mean about the speed. It's not 2 minutes and 45 seconds, but over one minute.

Page-to-page clicking takes 30 seconds or more.

Definitely slower than in the office!!!

Hey, Mike...are you monitoring this? The natives are getting restless!

IE 5.0 - and it happens even on my second, third, fourth, etc. login.


I checked the cookie. It's still on disk, and gets updated at each login.


I do notice that I have to enable scripting to use the UBB properly (much to my chagrin...I keep it off at home to get rid of those d**n pop-up ads!!!).


During this login, initial access to the boards took 95 seconds. Each page click takes 40 to 60 seconds before the page comes up.


I get better returns from search engines...
