Hi folk - Firstly I'm brand new to the forum so forgive if I'm asking these questions in the wrong area.

OK, background: I've been using Paradox since V3 and over many many years I built up a very large aviation data base.  Sadly my long and over worked PC packed up and I splashed out on a complete new system.

Now I alway knew that some day I'd have problems using Paradox9 and NOW it's happened.

I can run the basic program and I can add data and save without a problem - BUT ... I cannot print. As soon as I use CTRL P or select print the program simply crashes out to the PC's desktop.

Does anyone know a fix for this please??

I've also looked at newer versions of Paradox and can only find it as part of Wordperfect Office Professional 2020. Firstly this package is a silly price IMHO for a single retired person like myself ... BUT ... if it will allow me to read and print my files I may have to bite the bullet. Question is: Will it work with old .DB files?? (Obviously [I hope] it will be totally compatable with W10)

All comments HUGELY welcomed as I can't get any support over here in England.

printning failure is often the result of one of these

1) missing or offline network printers/devices

2) printer name too long, over 30 char

p9, p10, and p11 are essentially the same thing.. p9 is the only one packaged alone, or with suite 2000.. p10 with suite 2002, p11 with every version since.. you always want the "professional edition" of the suite, to get paradox.. p11 has not and will not change

Hi Steven

Thank you very much for your reply. Firstly my printer(s) are USB connected to a stand alone PC so network not a feature. As for the printer name ... I don't think I an simply rename it can I??

... and if that's not possible then do you think buying Office Suite 2020 Professional with P11 will sort the problem out?

Really really desperate to sort this out as I'm updating my .DB's every few days and can't print the updated records.

first.. but is your PC on a network? are there other network devices attached?

second.. yes, you can rename your printer.. win10 especially makes them long wordy names

p11 comes with every suite after 2002.. you don't have to buy the current, super-expensive suite.. p11 is p11.. actually, it's p10 with the service packs applied

another option is to print to pdf, then print the pdf

Hi John,

I had a similar issues on few different occasions.

First in june/july of 2018, when a windows 10 update killed PDOX 8 and I switched to V11.   In that case I found that I had some report objects (lines and boxes overlapping one another by the slightest bit.  When the report was being rendered it would crash Paradox. To test this I would design a report with a couple of data elements then test the print.

Also,  I have had issues with a few USB printers.  Sometimes a space in the printer name is an issue as well as a long name.

Have you tested this scenario?

Set the Default printer to print to a file using, a PDF Printer, or Microsoft XPS Document Writer,
or Microsoft Print to PDF

Now open the Paradox Program/application and test the print.  Does it work?

Hi Rum - Thanks for replying to my message.

Yes I've tried making my default printer print to .PDF then restarting the program.

I've loaded a .DB file and a .RSL file then used both Ctrl+P or used the print option from the menu. In both cases the program crashes straight to the Desk Top

OK - moving on! Last night I down loaded Corel X9 with Paradox11

Quick question before I try an install  ... Are there any "Service Packs" for P.11 and if so where can I find them?

Thanks for your patience and replies

p11 itself is just p10 with the service packs applied, in 2003.. it has been the same ever since, it will remain the same forever more, because the underlying BDE engine has not and will not change

sorry that we don't have a better answer for your printing problem

Hi Steven - Thanks for the update, at least I know where I stand.

So far converted 1,767 .DB files to .XLSX with probabilly another 2K+ to go!

MilFlyer,

Beware the export limit.  Exporting to the xls format from Paradox will only export the first 16,384 records in a table.

If you want to private message me your email.   I have a library that will dump the tables to excel for you.
