trouble using SendDLG() on 2016 RDS svr W/ Outlook

I am starting up a new 2016 RDS server to replace a 2008 R2 Terminal server running a Paradox 11 App.

I am having trouble using the M.SendDLG() command, which runs fine on The 2008R2 server.

I get a windows error about the default email client and to open Outlook and set it as default

I have opened outlook and set it as default

I have also set it in control panel default programs and through settings default programs

Both servers are running Outlook, the 2016 server where the problem is occuring is running Outlook 2019.

There is also a Paradox errormessage that simply says "Main".  I think thats the errorShow for the M.SendDLG()

Anyone else run into this?

we're still using Outlook 2016, but I'm also aware of potential show-stopper issues in 2016 and 2019.. this is gonna be the end of MAPI, as we know it

the "Main" error is the result on the mail logon failing.. I see that all the time when they haven't opened Outlook first

Thanks, that confirms what I was thinking.

I did some reading last night and the windows error sounds like maybe paradox is expecting a 32 email app and Office2019 is 64bit??

Since corel isn't likely to do any new development on Paradox, I am not holding my breath for a fix on that...

I was looking at some command line options. Ideally, if I could run a command line to create an email through outlook, that would be the best.  I have looked at a command line that will create a blank email, but I would ideally be able to prefill an email with to:, Subject, body and Attachments

First Betamax, then slider keyboards for phones, now MAPI.... What is this Earth coming to???!!! ARGH

I am also looking at some third party command line emailing, but since the client uses MS O360, I doubt that trying to go around outlook is going to work.

I am going on the assumption Paradox direct to Outlook is a dead horse. Is there anyone out there who has Paradox opening emails through Outlook 2019. Maybe there is a simpler solution.

If I could find a way to "import" an email into Outlook via a file paradox could create, that might work, but I haven't found a path on the outlook side there yet. I am not much of an outlook guy, but I am only aware of a PST import for importing an entire inbox.  I haven't found an outlook import for a single email.

we're in the middle of a similar assessment.. no, it's not 32/64, best I can tell, it's restrictions on older, less-secure platforms

no, Corel isn't gonna touch paradox

bear in mind that the paradox community is very small now.. we don't get messes of folks testing the same issues, at the same time, any more

Windows does has it's own set of API calls to manually run Outlook

This is an update on my early post about trouble using SendDLG() on a 2016 terminal server running paradox 11 runtime and Outlook 2019 from MS Office suite.

The consesus July 2019 on that server was outlook 2019 no longer supported MIME and paradox would no longer be able to pass values to outlook for 

In december I installed on a different new 2016 terminal server running Outlook 2019 but just outlook as a standalone, not the whole office suite.  And SendDLG() works on this server

I went back and checked the original server running Office Suite with the hope it had been an office update, but senddlg() still doesn't work on that environment.

I am very surprised at this, I wouldn't expect a difference in the standalone version, but there you have it.

Because they are client production servers, I am limited in how much I can trial an error try to pin down the difference, but I thought it was very interesting.

on our installation, sendDLG works fine, as far as opening the mail thing itself.. but it always returns TRUE, even if the user cancels the email

we have had other issues with MAPI email, with outlook.. its days are VERY numbered

Are you getting that return True in Outlook 2019?

I wanted to make sure I understood correctly the environment that SendDlg() is working for you.

my two remotes to that network might still be 2016, I'll have to check

I dont have a dog in the fight,  and I may not understand the problem...but...

If I were trying to implement an email solution in Paradox,

I would consider using a powershell script that would open and send a predefined file/content.   That would allow me to have paradox shell windows to execute the script thereby taking PARADOX out of the picture (as much as possible)

we've already switched to an alternative like this, for one process that needs html, as an attachment, with a submit button, in a big batch to our vendors.. everything that email security hates, in one process :-)

the only conceptual problem with the alternative, but it didn't matter in this particular situation, is that the alternative can't stuff the "sent" box
