I installed paradox 10 on win 7 on many workstation/nodes and have not had this problem

i just did a paradox 11 on win 10 last week with no problem.

i name aliases (i have 5) / browse path/ keep new/ save as....works fine until i close paradox and reopen

evertime i close paradox and reopen, it goes back to default..  I open alias manager and  says no database in use in upper right hand corner.....

i set to open paradox as administrator still same problem

i uninstalled paradox try again with same results.

What do i need to do to fix...

Thanks

sorry, mis-read the question.. there is no similar "easy fix" for p10.. per your descriptions, it must be an access rights (UAC) issue.. installed as Admin? open BDE as Admin? etc..

I agree about with the permissions issue.

Have you tried a command line switch?

Overview: Command-line options

I would first copy the IDAPI.CFG file to a another location,  then use

Overview: Command-line options

-o Filename Alternate BDE configuration file. (All BDE-based applications must use the same BDE configuration file when running concurrently.)

set up my alias again,  then close and reopen Paradox

If the alias is still there, then it is likely a permission or ownership issue

----

You might also try (but I dont know if these save alias definitions)

-f Forces writes to the system registry.

or

Overview: Command-line options

Overview: Command-line options

-i Filename Specifies an alternate PDOXWIN.INI file, which contains desktop settings. By default, Paradox does not use an .INI file to store settings, but you can create a file named PDOXWIN.INI and Paradox will read settings from it automatically.

definitely, and alternative approach could explain the root cause.. in the old days, it was "is it the speaker, or the speaker wire?".. still true :-)

I use an INI file to control a couple of things that even the runtime users can mess with, so they come back in clean, the next time
