Yikes!

Brand new Dell XPS computer with Win XP PRO(at my insistence!)...

PDOX 4.5 application is the backbone of my business.  Guess what?  There is NO Centronics Parallel port on this machine...no problem, eh?  $50 USB to IEEE(Centronics) cable from Office Depot installs virtual printer port on USB...Prints like a charm under Windows...Oops!  What's this?  PDOX has no USB printer port selection!

Can anyone advise me if there is a way around this?  I print 250 statements every month from my application to a HP 4000 workhorse printer...Oh Noe!

I realize this is older now, but just for grins...

You might consider using a wireless printer setup. Works fine, albeit just a bit slower than some on starting up. Another option could be the print server connection found on most NAS boxes, which is worth consideration in any small LAN environment.

Thank you for your assistance.  I tried your guide...very helpful.  The problem is that there is NO  +Port or LPT1 listed in the hardware in this new Dell.  Everything is USB these days.  There is no Legacy port to configure or direct output to.  If I shared the printer on a network(of one, just me) the LPTs show up, but if I configure the printer to that port, it becomes unavailable to print to.

DOS2USB

Just for the record, this little program from India works like a charm to redirect printer output to LPT1(or other LPTs I presume).

PdoxDOS itself doesn't know about the USB port, of course.. but quick work with NET USE and/or other re-direction options will work.. download 4xGuide from my web site for some guidelines..
