This thread is for general discussion about this month's Prestwood eMag (June 2008) which we've started sending. Everyone should receive it by June 3rd.
I just deployed a new rich editor, this version 3 rich editor replaces the version 2 one we were using and has more functionality. It's used in our message boards, knowledge base, tickets, PSDP Online, everywhere!
Notes:
Right click to insert a table, link, alignment, etc.
Select regions of a table and right click to manipulate.
The spell checker works with IE only.
Edit Window now resizable.
options now on top
HTML editor now formats HTML in readable format.
faster...much faster...as in loading editor, inserting emotion icons, etc.
Report Problems
Prior to deploying I tested on my local box pretty thoroughly and I've now done just a couple of smoke tests on the site. If you run into anything, let me know.
TinyMCE
If you're curious or need a rich editor for a website that's JavaScript or .Net based and works with AJAX, we're using TinyMCE available at http://tinymce.moxiecode.com
>>...Do you think those same issues apply to Access?
Yes and no. For those lurking, Andy is talking about my Future of Paradox blog which was part of the June 2008 eMag issue.
The future of Access is much brighter than the future of Paradox. Which would I recommend if a power-user, small business owner, entrepreneur, researcher, or hobbyist asked me which desktop database to start with? I'm reluctant to say because of my past ties with Paradox but I would reluctantly recommend Access over Paradox for new desktop database power-users. For professional developers, that's a completely different subject.
I'm thinking about writing a The Future of Desktop Databases article with mich of the material from the Future of Paradox blog rewritten to expance ths scope to all desktop databases.
Just got my copy of this month's newsletter and I'm just checking in and testing out this new editor. Seems like a real nice improvement. It's kind of weird to get used to the controls on top, but other than that, real nice. I'll give it 4 out of 4 .......
Mike: In the newsleter you talk alot about Corel holding back Paradox. As you may know, I am an ASP and Access guy. Do you think those same issues apply to Access?
Yes, Microsoft has threatened to get rid of MS Access several times but the reality is they didn't and they keep making little improvements. I wish Corel did the same with Paradox.
