Corel has committed to full Vista compliance at least on their website and from time to time. They have patched Paradox 11 and that's what's shipping as Paradox versions above 11 (actually 11 is the current version) but it doesn't work well under Vista. We've run Paradox 9 on Vista just fine. We have a couple of articles in our knowledge base and we're updating them when there are issues so you might want to keep an eye on them.
Paradox comes in WordPerfect X3 Professional edition. You still can't get Paradox stand-alone nor a "developer" edition but at least Paradox is still shipping as a current product.
............
*Paradox and the SDK (software development kit), included in the Professional Edition, will be updated for Windows Vista at a later date.
No, no, you're right. The student edition comes with Paradox too. I just meant you have to buy the whole thing to get Paradox. My BIGGEST pet peeve with Corel taking over Paradox from Borland is that they ONLY offer it in the Pro Edition of their office suite. Paradox should be sold separately.
I think they also should be selling the runtime license too. I don't like that they give it away for free. It has become this semi-hidden thing that new Paradox users rarely discover. In fact, both Paradox and Paradox runtime are mostly hidden these days and that's just too bad.
Has anyone experienced, or fixed, the error on exiting Paradox?
I've seen reports that users get an error on exiting Paradox, and it has lowered trust in the viability of distributing/updating apps in even the near future.
I've seen a few people who have, and they've posted that Paradox works fine under Vista (to the degree they've tested it).
One noted that Vista has had so much of the 'sexy' features it was supposed to have stripped out; no saying what the story will be if they ever introduce it as it was supposed to be.
Biggest issues I've read about: limited user and BDE Directory locked down.
I have been limping along with vista for several months. Pdox 9 seems to be the most well behaved of the versions I've run.
1. I haven't seen this error. Are you executing this from code or interactive. Where is the file stored and where is the answer table being generated? You will want to look at the numerous postings concerning Vista and vertualization.
2. I suspect that you have not set the developer preferences to advanced.
3. This is the real show stopper. What is interesting is that I haven't seen that with Pdox 9. If you are attempting to use pdox X3 with Vista, I would seriously rethink that until Corel gets it fixed.

My company is currently dealing with this Vista thing. Frankly, I am not enjoying it. Paradox 9 and 10 run fine in Vista. But we compile and deliver in X3. Versions 11 runtime, WP12 and X3 all run fine at first and then when you close paradox it gives a message that Paradox for Windows Desktop has stopped working.
Problem Event Name: APPCRASH
Application Name: pdxwin32.exe

Has anyone seen this? (This is without running our application. Just loading Paradox.)
I wrote a quick shell program in VB.net to launch Paradox and then when the error message is closed it deletes the .lck files and ends. That eases the problem a bit but of course, only putting a bandaid on it.
this is my first offering on these pages, and I2m not a professional developer, but I have been astounded over the years at the things I have been able to do with Paradox. I run Paradox 9 Developers Edition.
I recently acquired a new laptop with Vista Home Premium, and I am experiencing what seems like severe problems; basically, there appear to be 3 problem areas:-
1). existing code doesn't run - notably QBEs may run or may not. Sometimes I get an error message saying "....... file already exists" as soon as the code tries to execute a QBE from file.
2). some code is not visible - e.g. a button operates when I click it, but when I try to modify the code the object explorer shows no code in the editor window.
3). The desktop for Windows gives an error message when I quit Paradox. The message says that pfW has stopped working.
I have downloaded SP2 for X3, but it has made no difference.
1). This is an interactive event: from a table of results I select any record by a single mouse click and it generates a drill-down to give more detail for the record. The qbe is stored in the working directory, the current record name is inserted into the qbe string, then the result is shown in a table frame of the answer table in a different form. The query does not run at all; the code is halted at the execute command.
2).Yes, advanced is selected in preferences. The strange thing is this - there is a group of 3 buttons, and all 3 operate as they should. But I want to change the code on one of the buttons, that's when I can't see the code in the editor window. The code for the other 2 buttons is visible. And with the problem button, the object tree shows the event icon against the button, but no code in the editor window, It seems like something specific to that particular button,
3).This doesn't seem to be posing any real problems, as it only happens when I quit the program. But I'm not sure if it's a clue to something else that may not be working properly.
Hopefully, I plan to stay with Paradox 9 - I am totally happy with the work it does for me. I only tried downloading the patch for X3 after reading some of the notes on your web site.
