I've recently installed Paradox 13 (v11.0.0.411) on a new winxp system. I made all the usual customizations in the BDE - and those work fine. But within Paradox I set a number of things, including window size/location, working directory, and various other preferences. Now the odd part is that about once a day or so (no pattern than I've been able to find so far) when I launch Paradox, it acts like I've never set any preferences reverting to the default settings.

Any suggestions as to why this is happening?

(I've been using many versions of Paradox on many computers over the years, but I've never had this problem before!)

-David

After a bit of searching I found that this is a known issue. The problem is a pesky file that paradox auto-runs on Windows start that completely erases the Paradox registry entries. (One has to wonder why one would want to do that?)

Peace,

While there aren't many reasons to move to p11, the service pack that fixes the break in viewing remote aliases caused by xp sp2 might be one.

The issue cited in this thread isn't a show stopper. You simply remove the file from the RUN section of the registry, and delete the file if you wish, and your settings no longer get messed with.

Not a big deal at all, once you know what to look for. Definitely an annoyance until you take care of it, though.

Remove the file Pdxregcl.exe wherever found, and the registry setting PDXREGCLEAN.EXE, wherever found. Search your hard drive for the first, and search the registry for the second. Remove all instances of each, in both cases.

I've been looking for the exact steps to do this but haven't been able to find them.  Rather than muddle through the registry can somebody post them or a link.

 Thanks.

Thanks.  I was able to remove PdxRegCl.exe from the registry and that solved the problem.  However, if I deleted the PdxRegCl.exe file, the next time I started Paradox it re-installed PdxRegCl and reloaded the default registry settings.  A web search on PdxRegCl also returned a whole lot of information.

I'm not wanting to extend this thread unnecessarily, but for the purpose of overcoming this annoying quirk, I have a script which is available to anyone who wants.  It then saves having to trawl through the registery.

I simply run it from my working directory and bingo. "Where have all the flowers gone...?"

On the assumption that I won't be deluged with E Mails, contact me at ross.downes@xtra.co.nz

1. Paradox 11 Desktop Settings do not Save (PdxRegCl.exe)

Paradox does not remember desktop settings. I just installed Paradox 11 on a new computer and my working directory and other settings do not stick when I restart Paradox. Why?
