I think what is need is a Paradox dbXpress "driver". dbXpress is Borland's new cross platform database solution. With the death of the BDE, I don't think a Paradox dbXpress driver is a real high priority. My opinion is that before they do a Paradox "driver" they'll get MS SQL support for dbXpress (but who knows).
I think Corel is more likely to just adopt Microsoft technology. So I think they'll keep the Paradox ODBC driver that ships with the developer edition of Paradox 9 and just use ODBC/ADO. I think that is the logical choice.
I also think they'll keep BDE support for several versions because Borland plans on "keeping the BDE around" for at least several years.
However, I had thought that ages (aeons even) ago I made a post which although it didn't answer this specific question was connected towards running Windows type software on Linux.
Having messed around with Wine and Virtual Box I ended up using Linux Mint with VMware running XP and I have to say it just worked - if it ever fell over it was (as ever) due to Windows and one press of the button would bring up a new clone system to start again
Not that I've heard of to date. The current version of Paradox for Linux is running on WINE, and presumably using the BDE.
Kylix (Delphi for Linux) has just been released -- see Old UBB Archived Link: http://www.borland.com/kylix -- and I would presume there will be some method of access to Paradox tables, or else there will be a lot of dissatisfied developers. But all the talk I've heard is about the new cross-platform dbExpress, which does not include any support for Paradox tables.
You would think that, between Corel and Borland, somebody would be coming up with something...

Who knows, indeed? A Borland employee has told me that Borland has no intention of writing a dbExpress driver for Paradox. So, I guess it comes down to what Corel is going to do for future versions of Paradox. Speculation I've heard includes:
They could buy the BDE from Borland and continue its development.
They could write a dbExpress driver for Paradox and use that and runtime packages built in Delphi.
They could come up with their own database engine.
They could decide to drop or sell Paradox.
Has anyone heard from Corel what's most likely to happen?

Mike.. thanks.. yes I do have the Linux Suite available right now.. I have two copies..
honestly, I have no idea if there are any issues with running that on current versions of Linux platforms.. I have no specific reports that it doesn't, nor are there any specific reports that the regular Paradox and Corel stuff won't run, either.. on the community newsgroup, there is always something going on in that section..
as for Rick's list of Corel options, he forgot the main one:
do nothing.. (g).. seems like they picked that course of action about 5 years ago, and it's doubtful that anything will change.. ever..
Hi. I'd like to dump Vista and try Kubuntu (or Ubuntu or some other form of Linux). I have tons of Paradox databases, made over the past 14 years, mostly with Interactive Paradox. I'm currently running Corel Paradox 10 for Windows under Vista SP1. From what I've read so far, it seems like the way to go in Kubuntu would be to install Wine and then Paradox 10.
1) Does it seem like this would work?
2) Is there some more-modern/easier way to get Paradox to work in that environment?
3) I see a few stabs were taken in this direction in this thread prior; but they seem to have petered out. Any guesses as to the reasons?
I would like to know if there is a Paradox Driver for iODBC Ubuntu.Currently I have developed a WebInterface for a Payroll Software where it can access Paradox Tables using PHP odbc_connect on Windows webserver.I'm planning to launch it on a linux server.I just need some ideas on how to set Paradox Driver on Ubuntu iODBC.
