Does Paradox have macro substitution?
I need to use the contents of a parameter to pull a field's contents. Visual FoxPro uses the & character for that sort of thing. Is there a Paradox equivalent? Edit: Fount it - it's called dereferencing, eg  sField = "Name"   ;Assign a field name to the variable., view(tcCustomer.(sField));Dereference the variable using parentheses. from:  https://www.prestwoodboards.com/ASPSuite/KB/Document_View.asp?QID=101169

BDE GetConfigParams Block Size
Hi All, I've been having some fun trying to change the BDE 'block size' during run time. I need to generate large answer tables and I don't want to drag every user though the BDE Administrator. I have no access to their machines other than my software. I like the idea of only modifying the settings when my program is running instead of changing their idapi.cfg file.  "rptSession" is a TSession component in the below example. TStringList* tsl = new TStringList(); rptSession->GetConfigParams("\CONFIGURATION\DRIVERS\NATIVE\PARADOX\%s","BLOCK SIZE",tsl);, I can compile, and no matter what permutation of path I dictate, the engine can't find the parameter that I specify. I want to read the current block size, then modify it while the session is active. Thanks in Advance! Jim Shedden

Answer to self: 1) Declaring as string worked for a bit. Now not passing value to the query.  2) The negative value on the query form must be blank. If set to False, only those records with the value false in the logical field will be called up. The checked  value remains TRUE (Or yes, whatever is desired

Slow access to ADO table on 2nd pass
I am having a speed problem when writing new values to a MS Access table via and ADO connection.  On the first pass through the dataset there is no problem, with more than 1000 records per second being updated.  But on the second pass through, it slows to about 10 records per second, even though the task is much simpler. Just the fact that I try to update just one field seems to trigger the slow speed on the second pass.  I am using a TADOConnection and a TADOTable to connect to the Acces table.  To update the filed values I am using...    MyADOTable['MyFieldName'] := NewFieldvalue; Some parameters for the connection include... ConnectionString = Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Mode=Share Deny None;Persist Security Info=False, CursorLocation = clUseServer, Provider = Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0 Can anyone suggest what might be causing the problem or any possible solutions.  Regards  Ron

Matrox Millennium G550 and Delphi 4
hi, does anyone know, how to fix the following, problem?, , I have a Matrox Millennium G550 graphics card and use Borland Delphi 4.0. I have the newest driver and the newest Delphi version. The problem is, that for example the "Start (in engl. i think it should be RUN) - Parameter" - window is so small, that i cant type in some parameters. But the window isnt resizeable. I just can see the register "local" and a button "load". Thats in some other Delphi-Menues too ... , , If i start windows in "Protected Mode (i hope thats the name it uses in engl.) - you know F8 and then "Protected Mode" (for minimal driver-use) - you see the Parameter-Window in full size. (windows then uses the "standard-vga"-graphics-driver). Thats why i think, that the problem is with the Matrox Millennium G550., , Does anyone know how to fix this problem?, , I hope my english is well enough, too be understandable ..., , greets, necron

Type Library Imports: D6/D7
I have recently made a successful use of importing a type library and installing the component produced. This works fine in D7, but I only have the desktop version, and I need to be able to do it in D6 to use database access., , Now in D6, the library is imported and a source file produced which theoretically could be installed as a component. There is an "Install" button on the import dialog. However, the source produced will not compile. The error is "Property setter cannot have var parameters"., , It seems odd that D6 produces source code on the import which the compiler cannot then compile. Does anyone have any experience with this, or know a work-around. My inclination is to add "wrapper" procedures which don't have var parameters., , Neville

Updateing more tables
I have 5 final tables that I have to compare and update from 5 Temporary tables. Lets call the tables X, Y etc and the temporary tables TempX, TempY, etc. I only need to compare on the primary key of the tables. My problem is that each table has a different name for its primary key. How do I generalise my function to compare on the first column of all the tables and disregard their names so I can use the same function for all of them? Thus far I came up with this: scan tcTempX :, If tcX.qLocate(tcTempX.Xkey) then, Update(tcX), else, Append(tcX), endIf, endScan The qLocate compares in the key field already for tcX. Now I need to replace Xkey with something universal for when I pass tcTempY as a parameter to the function. In that case the Xkey will be invalid and should be Ykey. It would be easiest if I could simply make it use the first column in all the tables for comparison. Any ideas?

Email out of Access?
Hi,, , I have parameter queries that pull sets of customers. I want to open Outlook and have all the emails address from the Email field automatically in the To field of a blank email message., , I've used the SendObject on a Macro to send a standard email message, but this will not work in this case, as the message will vary, depending on the user and the parameter query they run. That's why I want to open a blank Outlook message and have the emails from the query in the To field. The email message can then be composed by the user., , I am designing this for users who have no experience with the Macros, and actually don't even see the database design window. I will run everything from a form, the user will choose the query they want, Outlook will open, with the emails in the To field., , Is this possible thru some kind of Private Sub code??

The first thing to do is instead of executing the SQL, do a response.write of your sql before you execute it, followed by response.end This will show you the sql statement you are trying to execute and then ending the program before you get the ADO error... , , The next step is to get the query to work...copy paste what is shown in the response.write and try to run it in access/query analyzser/etc...or just post your sql here...

Running a query on a form
I have experimented with the example listed on p. 407 of Mike's book where you can attach a table to an undefined table frame. I am using it in the context of running a query where query parameters are entered in an unattached field on the form and passed into a query. The Answer table from the query is then attached to the table frame on the form., It works well except that I don't seem able to control the display characteristics of the table. My table has a formatted memo field which always comes up in the form of a box in the table field which is too small to view easily. Any ideas on how these display characteristics can be controlled?, John Malcolmson

Help! Cancel a query if no data returned?
Hi,, , I have a like parameter query on the field course_name - Like "*" & [ Enter Course you are searching for:] & "*", , This query is the source for formCourceResult. I want to cancel the query if there are no results for the Value entered in the criteria., , I've tried this on the On Open event of the for but get a debug error. This is the code I've tried:, , Private Sub Form_Open(Cancel As Integer), , Dim rs As Recordset, Dim strsql As String, , strsql = "select * from qryCourseSearch where Course_Name = " & Value, Set rs = CurrentDb.Openrecordset(strsql, dbopensnapshot), If rs.RecordCount = 0 Then, MsgBox "No courses match your search", vbInformation, Cancel = True, End If, , End Sub, , Any ideas what is wrong?

Paradox Runtime 9.0
Can I control the "ToolBar" parameters in my delivered Runtime package? I would like only the "status bar" to be available when the delivered package is run. I would also like to "maximize" the applications when they are opened from the shortcut that I place on the desktop of my users. I've gone thru the help section but am missing something.

Problems with the keyPhysical event
Hey there can someone help. I having having a problem with the keyPhysical event. What I want to do is when ctrl and x are pressed together I want to result to be a cut operation. I know that this is s default action, but I also want it to include the command action(dataBeginEdit) so that it will work every time regardless of what mode you are in i.e. view or edit. I have tried to do this using the following code, , if eventInfo.isControlKeyDown() and eventInfo.vChar() = "X" then, disableDefault, action(dataBeginEdit), eventInfo.setId(MenuEditCut), endIf, , However, this does not work as it says that setId has a parameter mismatch. Can someone tell me what I am doing wrong, or a way to solve this problem, Cheers
