From The Editor
Mike Prestwood

Hi all,

It's been a few months since I included an editor's column so I thought I would just run through a few of the things going on.

FireFox 3 Ships!

Some of you probably noticed but over the last few months we've made a big effort to make our website look and feel great in all the major browsers including IE, Savari, and FireFox. I've been testing and switching browsers every day! Recently FireFox released 3.0 and it's gorgeous and fast. It seems to be the fastest of the major three and is now more compliant and renders well. Prior to this Safari looked best (although it's the slowest browser I've ever used by far). If you're interested in trying out FireFox 3.0, go to http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/. If you browse our website and compare both IE and FireFox, you'll see that we use features specific to both browsers.

Next month we'll include a review of Google's new Chrome browser released 9/2/2008.

Prestwood Computer Store - store.prestwood.com

We've added about 2,000 items to our online store and enhanced it's interface. In addition to offering our own products and services, we offer thousands of items including software , books , computer accessories , and accessories for your Sony PSP , iPod , iPhone , Apple TV , Mac , Zune , etc. All at rock bottom prices. Best of all, all proceeds go to supporting our online community, this monthly eMag, and for Team In Training for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's (LLS) fight against cancer. My wife Lisa trains with Team In Training and just finished running her 4th marathon. If you wish to contribute a tax deductible donation, go to her TnT page at http://pages.teamintraining.org/sac/nikesf08/lprestwood.

Author Contributions Wanted!

I hope you've been enjoying our monthly eMag. If you wish to contribute, you can do so by contributing anything from a tid-bit to a full article. Once we review and publish your content, it will be available in our online knowledge base and show up in a future eMag. For more info, go to http://www.prestwood.com/Newsletter/Contribute.asp.

Consolas - The Best Fixed Width Font!
by Wes Peterson
Fixed-space fonts are valuable and desireable in programming editors, because they can allow precise block selection and it's what programmers spend hours every day looking at. Courier and now Courier New have been the standard for years, but now there's another font you should consider.
C# topic (classic post):
Applying the Built-in ASP.NET User-Login Functionality to Your Database
by Stephen Berry
Using aspnet_regsql.exe to set up a database to support the functionality of ASP.NET 2.0's built-in membership.

Removable Disks - a brief overview & history
by Wes Peterson
Wherever would we be without portable, inexpensive removable media? From the old, eight-inch floppy, to the latest Blue Ray DVD format, little spinning disks have provided computer users with convient, off-line storage. This is a brief overview and history of the various disk formats that have come, gone, and are - for the moment - sticking around.

IT Water-Cooler for Power-Users topic (classic post):
Outlook 2003 Contact List Troubles?
by Wes Peterson
When editing an email meessage, and clicking on the buttons, "To," "CC," or "BCC," Outlook may display a message about not being able to display the contacts. Unfortunately, the organization of Outlook's menus makes it far from obvious where to go to address the problem. Here's the solution.

Help Wanted! topic:
