The Free File Transformation Website

Take Away:

This article discusses the features of the for converting a variety of files to different formats.

I have discovered what I think is the best online utility for converting my Microsoft Word documents into JPG images. Actually, this is only the tip of the iceberg in terms of what this very useful website can do. The JPG image conversion is only one of several target images that input files can be converted to under the Image converter category. In fact, there are several more categories that facilitate conversion of input files to many different types of file formats.

Here I want to present an overview of how the free  is set up to handle many types of software conversion tasks. The main menu is set up like this:

Audio converter

Video converter

Image converter

Document converter

Ebook converter

Archive converter

Webservice converter

Device converter

PDF to Word

Software converter

Hash converter

Underneath each of these categories is a drop down list showing a selection of target formats. Since I have only used it to convert my input files to images, I will limit the following discussion to the Image converter category.

The target formats for converting input files to images are: BMP, EPS, GIF, HDR/EXR, ICO, JPG, PNG, SVG, TGA, TIFF, WBMP and WebP. As an example, let’s say we want to convert something to the JPG image format. In the middle of the screen you will see several options for inputting the file to be converted: Drop files here, Choose files, Enter URL, Dropbox and Google Drive. Lower down the webpage, there is an area for Optional settings. Here you can change input parameters such as pixel height and width, color, enhancement and DPI (dots per inch). These settings are the same for all image formats except the icon type (ICO). The Optional settings for the icon type only let you change the pixel size for height and width and DPI. One thing to note is a drop down box for the JPG and PNG image types titled Quality. The options for this include Pretty Good (default), Best quality, Good, Medium and Best Compression. I like to go with Best Quality.

Directly above and below Optional settings is the Start conversion button. After clicking the button, you will be taken to another screen that will notify you the conversion process is working. At the end, you will see a message that reads “Your file has been successfully converted”. Then you will see the converted file download dialog box pop up so you can download your converted file. is ideal for converting a variety of file formats to be used with a variety of application programming projects.
