To extend the life of your battery, at least twice a year, drain it completely and then charge it for 14 hours.

To drain it completely, you need to temporarily turn off your computer's battery alarms and leave the computer on until it turns off because of a lack of power. Then charge it for a solid 14 hours.

To turn off battery alarms in Windows XP, uncheck the "Low Battery Alarm" and "Critical Battery Alarm" on the Alarms tab of the Power Options Properities page. (To display the Power Options Properties, right click on your desktop, select Properties. From the Screen Saver tab, select the Power button, then select the Alarms tab.)
