Bill Gates's daily working hours as an IT icon has ended. He stepped away from his daily corporate duties on Friday. His daily duties will now fall to CEO Steve Ballmer and chief software architect Ray Ozzie, and others. Bill Gates will continue serving as Microsoft chairman and dedicate one day a week to company business.
Bill Gates emmersed himself in software at age 17 and founded Microsoft at age 19 and over the next couple decades grew Microsoft into one of the best company success stories in American history. Two years ago Gates announced that he was leaving the software world to devote his time to the philanthropic organization he started with his wife in 2000. His last day was Friday, June 27, 2008.
Gates will now devote his time to philanthropic work. Helping solve some of the world's health issues. The group's work involves funding malaria and HIV research, among other causes.
