5. The Future of Paradox Blog

If you have an existing Paradox system you can keep using it but you'll need to skip the Vista operating system and either stick with Windows XP or move to Windows 7. Because better tools exist, you may very well want to put a plan together now for converting to another development tool or at least understand what the future is likely to hold. If you're a power-user or researcher working with data, stick with Paradox.

Paradox 11 not printing to network printers
I have just re-installed my Paradox 11 on a Windowsx64 laptop and I cannot get it to print reports from Paradox reports themselves. However, they work perfectly if I call them up from a form in objectPAL. When I just try to print in a new Paradox sessionm I get a dialogue box that says: Printer interface setup error/ LCAppPrint Initialize failed!  Then Windows 10 just closes the program. I'm not all that good with finding out where my problem lies. Could anyone point me to some solution, please? Tony

Back after yeeaars in the wilderness. I've tried this again and get the same result. I can print a report if I do it through and objectPAL script. Load the report and print. But if I just open the report, I get the same result and Paradox closes. Also, I can't print things like info structure. Paradox just falls over.

Printer Driver Settings
We have  been running Paradox 11 on Windows 7 for awhile. We have bought new Windows 10 pc‘s and are going through the configuration process. We have a Konica C658 printer. We are running into an issue where Paradox will not pick up the default printer preferences. For example, in the printer driver we have set Paper size = 14.5 x 11 Orientation = Portrait Print Type = 1-Sided Staple = Left Corner But when you print from Paradox, for example instead of Print Type = 1-Sided, we are getting 2-Sided. I know I can set some of these settings via code(I don‘t believe I can set it to staple). But I‘d rather not go back and change this on every form where I print reports. Has anyone run into issues with Paradox not picking up the printer preferences that are set on the printer driver? Oall other apps, such as the Microsoft Office apps, work fine. Thanks, Gary

Toolbars issues
I have two issues, possibly connected First, my properties toolbar will not display when using the QBE editor?   All other toolbars are working.  PdxRegCleaner is turned off(deleted).  Tried the display, reset, etc options on the toolbar dialog with no luck Second, The following code used to work,   but no longer does. if tb.create("Report Options") then, tb.addButton(ToolbarFileCluster, ToolbarButtonPush, MenuControlClose,BitmapCancel, "Close") tb.addButton(ToolbarModeCluster, ToolbarButtonPush,MenuFilePrint , BitmapPrint, "Print"), tb.addButton(ToolbarModeCluster, ToolbarButtonPush,MenuFilePrinterSetup, BitmapViewSource, "Print Setup") tb.addButton(ToolbarVCRCluster, ToolbarButtonPush,MenuReportPageFirst, BitmapFirstPage, "First"), tb.addButton(ToolbarVCRCluster, ToolbarButtonPush,MenuReportPagePrevious, BitmapPrevPage, "Previous") ....

Fonts in Win10 v1809
I just set up Paradox on a new system running the latest ver of Win 10 (1809).  My reports on the new system required a complete revision of the fonts used in the report.  I've been using the same ones for years and the fonts have always migrated to the new system.  This time, however, the fonts are not available in the properties, font drop down for any of the fields in my report.  The fonts are installed in the usual place and are available to the other myriad programs.  I installed Paradox from an X9 disc which I know doesn't make a difference.  I even uninstalled Paradox from the system and reinstalled using the X8 disc in the hope that it would make a difference.  It, of course, did not.  I am using other fonts that provide a similar impact.  But, not the same. Any body have any suggestions? Thanks in advance. Karen
