2. The US Government DO NOT CALL Download Files Should Be Structured Better

This article discusses why I think the US government’s DO NOT CALL download data files should be structured better so most people can import them into commonly used database programs.

3. The Future of Paradox Blog

If you have an existing Paradox system you can keep using it but you'll need to skip the Vista operating system and either stick with Windows XP or move to Windows 7. Because better tools exist, you may very well want to put a plan together now for converting to another development tool or at least understand what the future is likely to hold. If you're a power-user or researcher working with data, stick with Paradox.

Reading Paradox tables from Access 2007
I have an Access application that imports data from Paradox tables in an existing, external application (Timeslips by Sage). App was originally written in Access 2003 and I was able to link to several Paradox tables and read them successfully (no update is required). We upgraded to Access 2007 and the existing Paradox links work just fine but I have been unable to create new read-only links to more of the Timeslips' Paradox tables. The new Import wizard assumes a read-write link and then fails with the error:      "Unexpected error from external database driver (11010)." Development is on a Windows7 64-bit machine and deployed to a WindowsXP machine (soon to be upgraded to Windows7). I've tried linking on both machines and NoGo. I've also tried searching the web for code that could handle this but to no avail. Any suggestions as to how I can accomplish this?  Thanks very much.,

Connecting to PostgresSQL server
Hi,  I have been dragged back from retirement to fix a small Paradox database we use for design. Previously I used the Paradox ODBC to connect to the DB and all was well. The DB is now a PostgreSQL databse. I have installed the ODBC connection and can connect useing Access.  PostgreSQL35W ODBC System DSN On the paradox form I have a button to connect to the DB useing the following Code dynalias["UserName"] = "aaaaa", dynalias["Password"] = "XXXXXX" if not db.open(":PostgreSQL35W:", dynalias) then   ;Which Is the ODBC System DSN, , msginfo("Caliach Database Not Open", "stop") else message.visible = true ;UPDATE NEW PARTS, message = ("UPDATING PARTS DATA") sqlvar = sql SELECT PTMPTNO, PTMP1CD, PTMSTUM, PTMSEQ,PTMSATX , PTMUSE1, PTMUSE2, FROM altro.PTMFILE altro_ptmfile, WHERE PTMSEQ > ~oldptmseq, endsql executeSql(db, sqlvar, ":caliachData:NewParts"), , endif How do I change this to connect to the Postsgres35 DYN?

Libraries
I‘ve taken libraries that were originally made in previous versions of paradox. I have successfully resaved them under paradox 9 with no syntax errors. Then I deliver them. Problem is when I try to reference the delivered library vs the source, I get an error that this file doesn‘t have any symbol table information. Anybody know why?

I read somewhere that paradox puts the command into some sort of queue and makes you think it worked. I finally got it to work. It must be the very last line of code before endmethod. Not even an endif statement can be after it. Supposedly you can leave a form open by trapping for an eventID. I haven't tried that yet. This particular thing I was working on was just a script. Didn't used to be so touchie.

printerSetCurrent is hanging
Our entire user base is running 11.0.0.676 on Windows 10. I believe this is the latest version of Paradox. Today, there is 1 user whose Paradox app is hanging when executing  the command printerSetCurrent. Rebooting does not correct the issue. code snippet: stPrnName = "Win2PDF" if printerSetCurrent(stPrnInfo) then ; THIS LINE HANGS,      setRegistryValue("Software\\Dane Prairie Systems\\Win2PDF", "PDFFileName", pathstring , regKeyCurrentUser),      setRegistryValue("Software\\Dane Prairie Systems\\Win2PDF", "file options", 2, regKeyCurrentUser),      setRegistryValue("Software\\Dane Prairie Systems\\Win2PDF", "persistent", "0", regKeyCurrentUser), else,      errorShow("Failed to make Win2PDF the current printer"), endIf Has anyone run into similar issues with printerSetCurrent? Thanks, Gary

We've had this problem "forever" and haven't figured it out.  Windows 7.    It seems to come and go, but could be related to unusual status of one of your printers.   Try rebooting, etc.  Try removing unneeded printers.
