Forward by Michael Cowpland
I think it is interesting to read the words Dr. Cowpland wrote back in April 1999 and his excitement about Paradox for Windows and his commitment (at the time) to a best-of-breed desktop database. Too bad the financial bubble burst and he couldn't follow though.
Forward from Mike Prestwood's P9 book...
With the release of Paradox 9, Corel has once again demonstrated it's dedication to the Paradox community. Committed to providing users with a best-of-breed product, Corel has spared no effort in engineering one of the most powerful and easy-to-use relational database applications on the market today. Whether you're a business owner who needs to manage data, or a professional programmer who demands power, you'll appreciate the incredible new features in Paradox 9.
The Web Form Designer is a key addition. It gives you the power to design and create forms using embedded Java beans, eliminating the need to write code. The Paradox JDBC Driver, also new, allows for standard SQL access to databases from Java programs. Plus, you can build databases with a visual display, and create and modify table links with the exciting Visual Database Designer. Never before has Paradox offered so many features with such power and ease of use!
In addition, Paradox 9 shares a consistent user interface-and a common toolbar- with WordPerfect Office 2000 applications. This seamless integration makes for smooth workflow and delivers a complete productivity solution- ideal for corporate users.
Just as Paradox 9 enhances your productivity,so does Paradox 9 Power Programming: The Official Guide, an important addition to the CorelPRESS series of books. This comprehensive and insightful guide, written by Mike Prestwood and developed in conjunction with the Paradox team at Corel, is designed to help you make the most of your software and maximize efficiency. It will show you how to quickly upgrade to the Paradox 9 working environment and take optimum advantage of it's familiar interface, increased power and new features.
The Official Guides to Corel software are valuable resources for users worldwide, and this installment should prove an indispensable addition to the series. Congratulations to Osborne/McGraw-Hill, Mike Prestwood and the Corel team for doing such a super job on this book.
