Owners Internet Marketing:
How to Promote Your Website

Take Away: Ideas for promoting your website.

Having a web site that no one visits is like having a store with no customers. You must promote your web site to attract visitors. The following are some various ways you can promote your web site along with some comments.
  1. Submit to the search engines - If you're not in the various search engines, then potential visitors will have trouble finding you. Submitting to the major search engines, minor search engines, linked lists, specialty web sites, etc. is a daunting and time consuming task. Our Promote Silver and Gold services allow you to focus on other items while we make sure your web site is included in the search engines.

  2. Optimize your web site - If your web site is not optimized for both visitors and the various search engines, then your web site is not living up to its full potential. With our Promote Gold service we optimize your home page and a second shadow (or doorway) page. Our Promote Professional service includes our Promote Gold Ongoing service plus we spend up to 8 hours working with you to optimize all the pages of your web site in various ways.

  3. Banner Ads - You can either pay for banner ads or join one of the free banner swapping groups. If you join one of the free banner swapping groups, we don't recommend placing other web site banner ads on ALL your pages. You must carefully choose which pages to put them on. After all, BANNER ADS ARE LIKE BIG GLOWING EXIT SIGNS. If you need help creating a banner, click here.

  4. Domain Pointer / Alias - Register an additional domain and point it to your IP address. You can have additional domain names point to your existing web site account. For example, if you have an on-line clothing store you may wish to have the domain names clothes.com, shirts.com, and jeans.com all point to your account. This is an excellent way to increase your visibility and bring more visitors to your site! Prestwood offers a Domain Pointer service.

  5. Opt-in Mailing List - Allowing visitors to voluntarily add themselves to your mailing list is a great way to retain frequent visitors to your web site (known nowadays as stickiness).

  6. Contests and Sweepstakes - Another great way to attract visitors. For an example of how to do this, visit our contest page.

  7. Email Spamming - I hate to admit it, but it does work to a certain degree especially if you want to piss off 90% of your customers. Here at Prestwood, we have chosen not to participate in email spamming. For us, email spamming is a little too hard sales. Instead we use contests and our online community to attract visitors to our web site and we try to bring them back with our opt-in mailing list.

  8. Traditional Advertising - If your web site isn't on ALL your traditional advertising, then get it on there as soon as possible. This includes business cards, phone book ads, flyers, etc.
