Intranets

An intranet is a web site that is not intended for the general public. An internal web site. Call us today with your specific needs. The rest of this page details the type of information you might want to include as well as some key benefits of using Prestwood to build your Intranet.

Building an Intranet Web Site

Increase your company's IQ.

In Bill Gate's book "Doing Business @ the Speed of Thought", he wrote about the IQ of company being how smart it is. He stated one gauge of your company's intelligence is how well you move and share data and information. Prestwood can help you build an effective intranet web site that increases your company's IQ.

What Type of Information Goes on an Intranet

The Intranet web site at Microsoft contains such items as

  • Employee Phone book
  • Floor Plans
  • Cafeteria Menu
  • Employee forms
  • Office Supplies Store

Here at Prestwood we're not as big as Microsoft, but we do share as much information on our intranet as we can. This includes:

  • Anonymous Electronic Suggestion Form
  • Phone Numbers
  • Network Diagram
  • Employee Self and Peer Reviews
  • Drive Mappings
  • Org Chart
  • List of Paid Holidays
  • Employee Message Board

Intranets can become a repository of information. Some of this information is the type of information that ends up with one or two people and often gets lost over the lifetime of a company causing higher than normal expenses. By putting this type of information on an Intranet web site, you can increase the intelligence or IQ of your company.

Automating Forms

It is possible to automate employee forms either using a Windows application or on a web site. Perhaps the best technology for automating forms is to use an internet or intranet web site given the diverse technologies available today. Either would work. Here at Prestwood, the rule of thumb we use is if an employee can fill out a form voluntarily, then the form belongs on your intranet. This would include vacation requests, etc. If the form needs security or is used only by a few individuals then either a desktop application or a Intranet solution would work.

Increase your company's IQ with a properly built company wide intranet.
Abstract:
An intranet is a web site that is not intended for the general public. An internal web site. In Bill Gate's book "Doing Business @ the Speed of Thought", he wrote about the IQ of a company being how smart it is. He stated one gauge of your company's intelligence is how well you move and share data and information.

Intranets can become a repository of information. For example, sometimes information ends up with one or two people and gets lost over the lifetime of a company causing higher than normal expenses. By putting this type of information on an Intranet web site, you can increase the intelligence or IQ of your company. Think about building an effective intranet web site that increases your company's IQ.
