9. Paradox ObjectPAL Dormant Customer Ordering Trend Report (Old and New Versions)

This article describes a Paradox ObjectPAL ordering trend reporting program I made that accepts a purchase order date range and a non-purchase order date range. It will report customers who bought during the purchase time period, but not during the non-purchase time period. There are 2 versions of this report. The older version uses only ObjectPAL Tcursors to perform the processing. The newer one incorporates programmatically executed queries in addition to Tcursors. The purpose of this report is to reveal those customers with declining sales.

31. I.T. Strategies for Hard Times

Difficult economic periods call for hard decisions. It's easy to be tempted to cut back on your IT expenditures but that can be a major mistake.

I.T. is the goose that's been laying the golden egg for businesses -for decades, now.   You don't want to starve the goose; you want to tune it up. It's crystal-clear that computing has enabled businesses to reduce costs, and increase productivity.

Custom-written software is one of the major ways that businesses gain advantages in savings, profits and productivity.  The reason is pretty simple: No two businesses, even in the same industry, do things the same way.  Mass-produced software, even for a specific industry, seldom addresses every requirement of a given business.

33. An Introduction to Object Orientation Overview and introduction to object orientation. When you analyze, design, and code in an OO way, you "think" about objects and their interaction. This type of thinking is more like real life where you naturally think about how "this object" relates to "that object". Classes represent the "design" of an existing object. The values or properties of an existing object is it's current state. When designing classes, OO supports many features like inheritance (like real-life where you inherit your parents characteristics), encapsulation (hiding data), and polymorphism (the ability of one thing to act like another or in different ways).
